Disappointing to say the least

Pros

BB had a good run. They employed many people through the years and helped provide a strong tech presence in Colorado Springs. It had its flaws but many, many positive aspects.

Cons

This BB is disappointing. Having to make difficult decisions and layoff part of your workforce is understandable in this climate. You could have kept your integrity intact instead of treating employees poorly, even undermining them, and enabling the C suite to make decisions that clearly are conflicts of interest.

Thank you for acknowledging the difficult decisions that needed to be made. The company is changing while navigating a challenging economy like many other tech companies. BombBomb treats employees with respect, generous benefits, and transparency. Examples are an extra Friday off every month, flexible PTO, and 5-week sabbaticals for long-time employees. Regular town halls in the months before these events clearly communicated the conditions, the economy, and other challenges. The comment about conflicts of interest is unfortunate. This is a false narrative originating from one or two terminated employees who have colluded to create and spread this narrative, which curiously coincides with actions taken following audits of certain departmental practices and related performance issues. No further comments can be made. The company foresaw the issues, took action, and corrected matters. We wish you the best.

Pros

Historically, one thing BombBomb is great at is hiring amazingly talented, compassionate (most of the time) people. You'll see in a lot of reviews the same sentiments, and it's genuinely true. I was fortunate to work with so many wonderful people across all departments. The engineering department was once a great team, full of so many intelligent and kind employees. Always willing to help and share their knowledge. I learned so much in my time there, and I'm truly grateful for the experience.

Cons

Over many years of employment with BombBomb I had often heard our C-level and Senior Leadership tout the work we were doing was all for the sake of "Rehumanizing" the planet. The last few years, specifically this past year, nothing feels further from the truth—if you happen to be a BombBomb employee. If you are wary of companies who use phrases like "we're family", steer clear of BombBomb. I heard this kind of talk many many times, and after being part of the most recent layoffs I can tell you this is not any "family" you want to be a part of. For over 5 years of service I was rewarded with 4 days of insurance, and less than a month’s paycheck to “assist” while I looked for new employment. The business outlook has gone from bad to worse. I understand businesses need to sometimes downsize and the market has not been great, but with this new COO at the helm (making some questionable decisions) it feels like everything is going downhill fast. Between laying off almost all of the marketing staff earlier this year in favor of hiring a third party agency (who has not been worth the “fortune” BombBomb spent on them), to rumors of nepotism, it doesn’t feel like things will be getting better anytime soon. My advice? Pass.

We understand that the new direction resulted in changes that impacted people. The hard decisions that were made were not taken lightly but were necessary. We did recently bring a COO onboard to gain the perspective and expertise that she has from over 20 years of experience growing other tech firms. BombBomb has been facing obstacles for some time in the market, as well as internally that have been hindering our ability to grow. We must address those items so that we can return to a path of success. We appreciate you providing your thoughts and insight. We truly wish you success in new endeavors.

Pros

During my time at BombBomb, I was given many opportunities and chances to learn and grow. I worked hard, grew my skill set and had a great boss that nurtured my growth and career path. I worked with team members that collaborated well, helped each other out when things got tough and overall created a great company culture of support and growth. My boss, myself, and nearly a third of the company were let go in the latest round of layoffs and therefore this culture is going to be really hard to rebuild.

Cons

With the recent hiring of a new COO, the company has had two rounds of significant layoffs. It has become clear that when the CEO hired this person, he had full intention of making big changes - to the detriment of his employees - and hired someone to do his dirty work. In the first round of layoffs, nearly the entire marketing team was let go in order to hire an outside marketing agency - whose CEO is allegedly dating BombBomb’s new COO. The CEO claims to want to “rehumanize the dehumanized”, yet in the latest round of layoffs (in which I lost my job), he and the COO left us with 1 week of severance pay and 4 days left of health insurance… After my attempt to negotiate severance was denied, I’m left feeling pretty dehumanized.

Job change is a major life event. We recognize that our new direction called for hard decisions and those decisions impact people. First, the comments about severance and insurance suggest a less than complete understanding of the benefits and options in the package. We encourage you to contact HR for further clarification. You mentioned the COO. She joined the company recently bringing 20 years of experience in improving and growing similar but larger tech firms. The unfortunate fact is that we already faced challenges before she arrived, such as increased competition and a soft economy among other things . In our regular town halls and departmental meetings, the entire organization was aware and engaged in projects to address these issues. There was transparency, there was encouragement and directives to act and show initiative. The characterizations regarding our founder and CEO are yours to express. Respectfully, great diligence and equanimity were used throughout this process. There is no joy in it. But companies generally do not “negotiate” in these situations for a range of reasons among which are fairness and employment law. We thank you for your candor here. We very sincerely wish you success in a new chapter.
