Pros

Hired in 2012. Work life balance pretty good at the time. Pay below industry stanards but made up for it with generous vacation, chill enviornment.

Cons

Fast forward to 2021. No work life balance any more. Getting worked like a startup but without any bonuses or stock options like you would get in one of those companies. Still below industry standard comp. Generous vacaction now overshadowed by significant off-hours work and requests to work weekends.

Pros

Boston College has some of the most generous benefits - in terms of 401k, health plan, and tuition reimbursement. Every office has their mix of motivated and not-so-motivated individuals, but I can honestly say that I've met some of the very best co-workers at BC (including a couple mentors).

Cons

Unfortunately, generous benefits means the base salary (I can only speak to staff and administration) is lower than you might find outside higher ed. And while BC innovates, it does so at a slower pace than corporate America, so if you're looking to make big change, be prepared to run into some red tape.

Pros

Good benefits and good place for work-life balance

Cons

Pay is not compatible and HR does not do a good job sustaining younger/newer employees.
