Cons

Employees not appreciated and not listened to. Toxic culture of gossiping behind people’s backs but being nice to their face (similar to high school drama). Also a big culture of ‘minimum wage, minimum effort.’ Management have favourites and will make you feel horrible even if you’re the harder worker and are actually doing your job, unlike the people they favour (this is mostly the case if you aren’t white). Other employees are quick to pounce on each other’s mistakes, however small they may be, and complain to management; feels very much like being surrounded by primary school children. Also been here four years and it was only the first year that employees got something for Christmas (it was a chocolate box and a £15 voucher to spend in the store); after that, we got nothing for Christmas - I don’t celebrate but it would be nice to feel appreciated during the busy period. No bonuses or incentives or anything like that. Management hardly stick up for employees in front of troublesome customers, instead they just give the customers what they want, and it makes it look like the employees don’t know what they are doing even though they are in the right (for example a customer has no receipt/proof of purchase, no label/ticket on item and it is past the refund date, they should not be given a refund or exchange but when they demand to see a manager, they almost always authorise it immediately ‘to keep the customer happy’).
