Brady: How not to run a company

Pros

Its a job not a life sentence. The people you work with every day are, for the most part, excellent, talented and genuine people with a fraternal approach to work. The COO is no longer COO. It gives you a new appreciation for the phrase 'It could be worse' The Walking Dead are confined to upper management

Cons

The 'strategy' and 'vision' of the company appears to be divined from tea leaves. Consensus from leadership is it is the fault of the employees that the company is suffering on all conceivable fronts. This is in the aftermath of a company wide survey (with 75%+ engagement) that has employee satisfaction at sub 5% with certain aspects of the business. 18 months ago new leadership came in that threw the baby out with the bathwater. The matriarchal figure within the company, if we are to follow a familial theme, is an addict to technology buzzword bingo, changes processes and focus so readily and so willingly between ideas both bereft of technical understanding or indeed any grasp on reality whatsoever that her 'roadmap to success' basically looks like a schizophrenic drew a map of Spaghetti Junction with an Etch a Sketch during Hurricane Katrina. As a direct result, product knowledge and mass resignations at the lunacy have been a staple of the last 18 months with a regularity approaching that of a healthy bowl movement. Former colleagues wave at us as we pass them in the street with a spring in their step as we trudge toward an abattoir for the human spirit. The patriarchal figures deny any and all wrong doing with a veracity of George Best denying he has a drink problem and the vigor of the Westborough Baptist Church picketing San Francisco's Pride Parade. Their principal complaint is that developing software costs money. It is of course the responsibility of everyone other than Sales to generate revenue and in this regard, our brazen desire to be paid to create software is counter to the Juche-esque ideology our leadership require. What is an upside to this is that its next to impossible for it to be any more clear how little time/respect these people have for the people trying to keep the ship afloat as, like the Virgin Mary on her wedding night, they scream for more while clients are more likely to talk to us through the magic circle than email. With ever dwindling resources, they may be dragged from the golf club sooner rather than later to account for the sucking chest wound they've inflicted on a once great company. I fear it will be too late.

Failing Fast

Pros

It was the sense of community and understanding of the clients and markets. A loyal client base who were willing to stick by us but were pressing for development

Cons

The extraordinary positive review was obviously written by someone in HR and there are an oddly high proportion of them. Brady needed to take some steps to improve product and revenue but they have decimated both and removed a huge amount of knowledge from the team. Market reputation is now dire and the competition is laughing. When does the money run out we should be asking?

Appreciate you taking the time to post a review and I am glad you appreciated our sense of community whilst you were an employee of ours. Community is something we cherish, and it is an important part of day to day life here at Brady. I am sorry to hear that you left the company with a negative perception about our management team. Management is hard. Inspiring and leading business transformation even more so. The management team of Brady are committed to delivering to our customers and building a great company where our employees enjoy coming to work and which they are proud to represent. On a separate note, I am stunned that you would criticise the veracity of your former colleagues. While you left our employment with a negative perception your former colleagues indicate otherwise. Recently we conducted an employee survey which impressively 79% of our employee completed. The message from our employees is clear, while there are still areas which we need to address, the employee engagement and morale across our teams is improving. Further to the title of your post – we are not ‘failing fast.’ There is no fake news as you’ve reported. As a public company anyone can check out our company for themselves by reviewing our public disclosures. Brady wishes you the best in your future career endeavours.

Pros

Many very talented, bright and nice people still remain in the organization. Good work environment in some company locations, ok pension benefits

Cons

Top management is terrible with no idea what to do. CEO Ian Jenks is a distant old man that completely lacks contact with reality and spends most of his time sitting on boards for other companies and talking about how he almost crashed his car on the highway in 1986, while COO Elizabeth Sipiere is the real CEO of the company. She changes her mind every day and throws money into every current buzz in the software development industry while at the same time cutting cost in the production line. The leadership style is characterized by micromanagement and bureaucracy. Communication is mostly lacking and if there is any communication from the top management it is in the form of poorly formulated, misspelled and ambiguous two line e-mails written by the COO on her phone. The spirit of the people actually doing work has been broken a long time ago. Nepotism is rampant and middle management is filled with people mainly looking to ingratiate themselves.
