Pros

- The codebase for the project I worked on was decent and overall pretty easy to work with. - For the project I was on, it was a good work-life balance. I heard people on other projects had overtimes, but it wasn't the case for the team I was on - I had good learning opportunities at this job

Cons

- The CEO is extremely rude. In my last month at the company, I personally heard him referring to entire engineering team as pathetic (in the engineering Slack channel) and also calling all of us f-word in person. I heard him scream angrily and curse at other people and say other very rude things. It would be pretty hard to list here all stories I heard personally about him being shockingly rude and arrogant - just because there are quite a few of them. This is the main reason I am giving 1 star to my review. It would have been 2 or 3 stars otherwise - When I worked at Brinqa, we had ~8-10 developers on this project I worked on. CEO personally reviewed every pull request. And he took a very long time to do it. I easily had 5 to 10 open pull requests at a time, and some of them took WEEKS for him to review. And just to clarify - not for me to address the comments. It could easily take 5 days, or 2 weeks for him to just click the 'approve' button. And then I had to often deal with humongous merge conflicts that piled up while I had 5 open PRs for a week. If you are a developer, you know how annoying this is - There is no engineering leadership of any kind. - There are no software development processes of any kind as well. When I started a year ago, we were late with the alpha-release of this new project I was working on. A year later when I left, we still did not release. - I spent a year at Brinqa, and I did not know who my manager is up until 1 month before I left - I never had 1x1 with anybody to talk about my career development, annual goals to set, or just talk about any of the concerns I had - There is no transparency in the company. Are we profitable? What are we trying to do: go IPO, or get acquired, or what? I don't know. No all hands or company announcements about direction we want to take - The upper management never gives any updates of any kind. They never announced new hires, so new people would just show up in the office. They also don't usually announce when somebody leaves the company. So one day you'd just notice that somebody isn't there. Are they sick? Are they fired? Did they quit? Who knows. Management clearly doesn't think it's important to communicate what is happening with people who work there - When I asked for a raise, it took them 3 weeks (!) to get back to me and set up a performance review meeting. They didn't even say 'we are busy now, but we'll get back to you'. They just ignored me, until I asked about it again. - Leadership has no trust in people and takes no responsibility. - The benefits are bad. This is the worst insurance I've ever had over 5 years working in software, hands down. Only 12 days of PTO per year. No 401k. No stocks. No bonuses. No other stuff - There is no team culture, and management doesn't do much to establish it. Most people just don't talk to each other

Pros

Brinqa paid above the industry average. Product ideation and vision is exciting and the business problem they aspire to solve are real issues for the largest companies. Sales management (the VP of Sales) is engaged, cares about outcomes and does invest time to attempt to up-level employees, although at times, coaching felt a little too scripted.

Cons

Senior Management, starting with the CEO, Founder and SVP Sales/CS were found to be weak assets to the organization. The CEO is not a sales driven leader and couldn't clearly articulate a vision for the company during Revenue Kick Off, the Founder has a negative attitude and seemed more focused on building out an in-person office for RTO versus staying out ahead of the competition and the SVP of Sales seemed really checked out in terms of ability to rally the troops, apply process, uncover repeatable sales processes, drive team collaboration, forge deep customer relationships and codify a winning formula. Much of my time selling here felt like I was on an island, which I've done before in the past and had been successful with, but being in that position ultimately leads to massive disconnects and the feeling of being an outsider when the team does get together. There is a serious lack of transparency in terms of company goals, objectives and performance attainment; which led to 20 folks, myself included, to being blind-sided in a company layoff in June. The layoffs were not due to individual performance rather a cost-cutting directive, the majority of folks impacted were just exiting or still in their ramp periods.

Pros

You can be thankful that you have a job.:-)

Cons

1. Managers: a) If you know to talk, You can be a Manager in this company . It doesn't matter if the things that you say make sense or not. Clients sometimes knowingly just ignore the fact that you are bluffing them. b) They will never back up their team members. Instead when an issue comes up on client side, They are the first to disappear from the spot and leaving the Team members to clean the mess and deal with the issue. 2. Professionalism: Well !.. That is the only thing i could not find in this Company. The bosses expect professionalism but they will never shy away from an opportunity to verbally abuse you. Even foul language is used sometimes in Emails to express their frustration ( How Professional is that !....). 3. Please understand that the People working for you are not MAGICIANS. But UNDERSTANDING is what you LACK. 4. Lets WORK on WEEKENDS!.. : I know it sounds weird but thats what you are expected to be prepared for EVERY WEEKEND. The whole week will be very peaceful and all of a sudden you get an email with tasks alloted to everyone for the weekend. LONG WEEKENDS are their favorite time to come up with such ideas. 5. HOLIDAYS: Its a myth. Bosses show favorism when dealing with holiday requests. They will give you the most nonsense excuses on holiday requests and try to justify it. 6. Appraisal/Reviews: "Review is what they are ready to do, And Appraisal is a thing that they never knew." You will be expected to work for extra long hours on a daily basis ,but when you ask for an increment , then all your hard work goes into vain. All of a sudden the boss says that you need to improve , you need to work hard, you are not upto speed.etc. You will end up feeling that Nothing that you did was worth the effort that you put in. Frustration is all that you will get. 7. Fake People and Fake emotions, Big Ambitions and No Solutions. You go here only when you have NO other WAY TO GO ...
