Pros

Incredible teamwork and camaraderie amongst producers and editors.

Cons

Major challenges between management and employees. Very little communication from the top down. Serious lack of clarity from HR on benefits package, PTO and work-remote policies that result in unfair (and non-negotiable) penalties. Highly inappropriate handling of sensitive matters (mental health, disability, layoffs, etc.) by HR / management that perpetuate a toxic culture and workplace gossip.

Pros

Brut is a company that had a lot of potential and to its credit, a lot of opportunities to cover interesting stories and topics. Nice neighborhood to work as well with wonderful vibes from nearby Flatiron and Madison Square Park. Unfortunately, a creative vice grip from the HQ in France coupled with unhelpful management strategies and nonsensical level of antagonism from HR is seemingly dooming this once promising startup. If only the people working on the ground were valued and listened to by the people in charge, more than half of the staff might actually still be there.

Cons

Cons - Too much control with people who don’t seem to wish to understand the American market - Staff does not feel they have an outlet for criticism or concerns — HR is territorial, at times patronizing - Perks come with (hidden) strings i.e. "unlimited vacation" that must be approved by managers before taking are then used as a backhanded string when deciding bonuses - Accountability issues

French arrogance at its worst

Pros

- Virtually none, except that they raised some money recently so you can tell people you worked at a “start-up”

Cons

- HR is incredibly incompetent, created a toxic environment - Entirely run by white men who enforce their prejudice and misogyny on employees - Everyone is underpaid and overworked - The office is a terrible place to be at all times of the day
