Pros

Nice building, good location. Metallography is a fascinating field of technical/scientific endeavor.

Cons

Since the 2009 recession Buehler management, driven by Illinois Tool Works management, has eliminated virtually all long term employees who were good at their job and replaced some of them with low paid workers with no experience, or very limited experience in the field of metallography. Several excellent sales people have been terminated while others, who cannot even send out a product quote to an enquiring customer (one important customer asked 4 times for a quote, but never got one) are retained. Their laboratory staff has been decimated since the termination of one of the world's greatest experts in metallography in December 2009. Their marketing department now knows nothing about marketing and nothing about their products and the market they serve. Three people in upper management were fired starting in the Fall of 2010 who should have never been promoted or hired. They terminated the head of their European office in Dusseldorf who was a superb employee. He controlled their offices in Germany, England and France and all distributors to South Africa and Australia (except for China and japan). The ITW 80:20 rule is stupid and prevents sales growth. Buehler sales have fallen dramatically as a result. They have not introduced a successful, competitive new product in years. Buehler has also lost a number of their excellent, dealers worldwide.

Pros

Safe area, close to great lunch places, a division of ITW, great co-workers, a good place to learn the ropes for the work world.

Cons

Low pay, low raises, employee treatment varies by department/manager, employees kept in dark as to direction of the company, older employees who have valuable product knowledge not valued, headcount very low except in management, no procedures, minimal training, no growth opportunities unless on the fast track. Upper management surrounded by middle management that are yes people.

Pros

Pros really do not exist in Buehler. Co-Workers are friendly, but extremely demoralized. Safe location. Annual bonus is a turkey or steak. Benefit are good, but that is an ITW policy not Buehler. If you are in management and want to collect a huge salary and bonus, along wth doing no work this is the place for you.

Cons

This place is a Joke. When you walk in the door there is a sign that praises entrepreneurial spirit. This is an absolute lie. Do what you are told and do not go against the grain. Fear retaliation as the director of HR rules with an iron fist. They get rid of their worker bees who possess much intellectual property and replace them with overpaid management who are useless. The turnover is intense creating situations where you have up to 3 jobs to do at once. Zero reward for hard work. Very dysfunctional, especially for those who work in admin. It got to the point I would rather starve than spend another minute there. Also employees are held accountable for poor management decisions.
