Pros

People I worked with were mostly nice, free burger on breaks and okay parties

Cons

Where do I begin.. I have never seen worse management than this company. Starting from my manager to the office. They don’t really care about their staff’s overall mental wellbeing, it’s just money money money. Plus all the people in management are former servers which I don’t understand because managing an office and serving food are completely different things. It feels like a bunch of high schoolers trying to run a business and that’s why their overall staff morale is so bad at the moment. No one likes the office and they cannot say anything because they know it’s not getting fixed. Some of the things they do can even get them in trouble which I don’t think they realize. I still have friends working for this company and all I hear is red flags. I try to encourage them to take action but they are 100% sure that they are be the ones who’ll get into trouble so they keep their mouths shut. I don’t exactly know if the office is clueless to the bad things happening in their branches or they just don’t care but I strongly think they just don’t care. Because I know of people who constantly report the same issue and never getting a solution to their problems. I know people who can’t take their breaks because the office is restricting so many things that it’s impossible for the staff to keep things up. One time I was very sick and tried to get a sick day but my manager didn’t even care the fact that I was sick and said the only way I could get it was if I handed them a doctor’s letter which by the way you don’t need to show a doctors letter if it’s no more than 2 consecutive days according to Irish law. In the end I had to find someone to cover for me. They do this to a lot of people because they don’t want to pay them for sick leave. But still I was quite astonished at the fact that my manager who’s supposed to also care for my wellbeing did not care about me at all and it was only the business that mattered. By the way I only took one sick day during my 7 months working for this company. Well I can write so many more things but I think you get the picture.

Pros

Good meals on shifts, longer work days = more days off, good tips

Cons

HR on your neck 24/7 unattainable expectations, severe micro management and intimidation. Extremely late finish with no taxi dockets even when there are no buses, forced to walk late at night through dangerous areas in city for 40 mins. Empty promises, management has unrealistic standards they forget what it’s like to work in hospitality even though they all claimed to have started as waiting staff, absolute smell of greed and elitism about them. Not worth all the work or stress. Hiring has a preference to foreign workers and a clear use of other languages infront of the ones who don’t understand

Waitress or cleaner?

Pros

Good tips and colleagues are also nice, free food when working. Parties during the year and voucher when you start.

Cons

Long hours, restaurant dont feel safe in city centre and you are expected to clean the whole restaurant at the end of the day, they should have a cleaners team for that. I have worked in other restaurants and wasn't required to clean everything just basics like tables, cutlery and dishes. Most of the rules are nonsense. Also, not possible to have holidays at the end of the year, they struggle with shortage of staff probably because the job is heavy no one wants to stay very long. Hours are weird, or you get too many or too little, no balance. Manager is never on site and difficult to reach to complain or suggest changes. They "promote" to supervisor very fast but dont train well and you just have to do it yourself, it is a lot of responsibility.
