      - 1-year probationary period (a year without dental and vision care) - Low starting salary. Depending on your experience, education, and the role you were hired for, you will start between $33k to $41k - Management has a bad temper How can the C.D. Howe claim that its mission is to improve the living standards of Canadians when it treats its employees so poorly? Readers, if you are a politician, a scholar, or an industry executive, please think twice before getting involved with the C. D. Howe Institute. There are other organizations that would benefit from your generosity, time and energy - organizations that treat their employees better.

      - good hours - get to meet a lot of interesting scholars and government officials

      Cons

      - senior staff often bully (you an overhear staff crying behind closed doors) - junior staff are often lied to about their career trajectory - a lot of psychological games - pay is below average (junior staff start at $34,000, which is especially troubling in light of the fact that senior management earns $350,000+ according to the CRA - overall incredibly toxic
