Pros

- Newer offices - Occasional gifts/ snacks - Large staff pool broadens opportunities for consultation - PTO on national holidays - Very nice billing team

Cons

- Quota/ billable minimum is INSANE. 28 client hours a week base and you have to schedule 34 to fulfill it. As a result, 0 time to connect with coworkers and everyone is constantly burnt out. - Terrible pay. I averaged $12.50/ hour my first 6 months working there as a masters-level clinician. - Have to use your PTO if you are short on quota. - Often will put clients on your calendar outside of your comfort zone/ scope of practice. If you push back, they'll often make you feel pressured and/ or question your work ethic - Rapidly growing at the expense of clinicians - spending money on new locations rather than paying clinicians better. - Gaslightly environment where upper management says they care ("CARE") but often rejects feedback or gives caveats/ doubles-down when employees attempt to set boundaries. - Poor quality and impersonal supervision. Supervisors do not advocate for you if you bring up concerns about the company or honor your work-life balance. (Also, supervisors rarely make exceptions for not charging clients for missing a session due to life emergencies.) Overall got the impression that I was expendable as a clinician and an employee working here. Very polished from the outside, but this place has a lightning-fast turnover rate for multiple reasons. Don’t make the same mistake I did, find someplace else!

Pros

There are some excellent clinicians and genuinely kind and friendly coworkers. The offices are beautiful and the break room is nice. You will always have more than enough clients. There is a one hour weekly consultation group which can be great.

Cons

It can be a burnout environment. Fairly high caseload and low autonomy. Clients are clearly assigned based on schedules, not clinical fit or even, at times, scope of competence. You are told you can request to stop intakes when you are full, but that is only for temporary holds and the push to take more clients continues even when full. You are also encouraged to use your PTO to "cover" cancellations that pull you under weekly quota, even though CARE already recouped a cancellation fee from the client. There is not much time to connect with colleagues outside of the one-hour weekly consultation group and it can end up feeling lonely. There were a few billing and documentation practices that left me feeling on shaky ethical ground, and I'm confident that if I were ever in trouble CARE would have thrown me under the bus if it seemed like I would damage the company brand or bottom line. That, of course, is true of any company, but CARE is no exception. The company culture can be friendly and encouraging at best or cliquey, profit-hungry, and full of toxic positivity at worst. At the end of the day, it is a business and you feel that.

CARE Counseling Response

Thank you for your feedback. Your thoughts are valuable, and we heard some similar suggestions/feedback in the Spring. Then and now, we're humbly letting the feedback soak in, reflecting on ways to grow from the suggestions, and making changes. Although some changes take longer, I’m proud of how the entire team came together and made advances and changes related to many of your concerns in this review to better support the needs of our team. We’re for sure not perfect, we’re just people over here trying our best. I also know people on our team are working hard. My heart tightened reading that you felt like our responses implied we don’t see the hard work or dedication of our team. I’ve reread all of our responses and can’t find where we said that we don’t think people are trying hard enough but want you to know, that’s not at all my belief or the intention of any of these responses. We value our team and trust that we’ll become a better place to work each year due to the input, support, and dedication of our entire team. I’m sorry CARE wasn’t a fit for you. As always, feel free to reach out if you want to discuss any thoughts or concerns with me, your previous manager, or someone from our HR team one on one. I wish you the best.

Pros

The supervision and training team are amazing, completely undervalued by higher ups. Was able to learn so much as I was working towards independent licensure from them and group supervision. I only stayed as long as I did because of this and because of the amazing clinicians I worked alongside.

Cons

This is a company that is dedicated to making money over any values. I still have nightmares about the COO potentially canceling client appointments on my calendar to make me talk to him. He is an egotistical child that throws tantrums when clinicians advocate for client care. They engage in unethical billing practices (pressuring staff to bill IC if someone is “just a little bit anxious”, billing for two diagnostic assessments, etc) and force staff to use their PTO if they are not meeting quota. Their language around workplace culture is practically cult-like and they will tell you to not take lunch breaks to see more clients. Former employees have been speaking out against them and CARE leadership has called and threatened them with defamation suits. There are other places that will value you more.
