They don’t care about their staff

Pros

A few very nice people working there. A shame they’ll likely get ruined. CEO and CFO are bigggg spenders so the Xmas work do was nice, thanks! :)

Cons

A complete lack of any sort of hybrid work. It’s like a prison that you cannot escape. They prioritise their wallets over their employees happiness and mental health. The methods are questionable. When you calculate everything, you sit in a meeting with the CFO who then tells you to increase the percentages of involvement and usage just to increase the value of the claim. Totally not weird or dodgy 🤔 Overall, I’m glad I’ve left. CBTax will never appear on my LinkedIn nor my CV as itself. For the rest of my life if anyone asks me about the place I worked at during this time I will just say it was a random tax firm. If you care about yourself and your mental wellbeing it is truly not a place for you. Everyone who is not a director (weird how many of them there are now!!!) is just not respected whatsoever. They’re not real people, they do not matter to anybody who is any higher. Moving away from the management though, some staff themselves are horrid. Bullying management behind their backs, saying nasty stuff and making fun of people. It was truly like working with high schoolers.

Pros

Offices (whether you agree/disagree with the business model) - the new Manny offices are state of the art, and there are opportunities to go far in the business if you can navigate the ethics of this business.

Cons

Before taking on this position, I had a long standing position with a consultancy business. I joined CBTax for hands on consultant experience but also with the intention of returning to my previous role once I had gained experience after 18 months. I set my own career in reverse joining this firm. It doesn't have a good reputation across the country and I've actually had to remove it from my CV. My own experience was fine. I have heard horror stories from people who had been around this scheme since the beginning. I received a copy of the CBTax v Chloe White case from an anonymous email less than a month into the job - someone had given my email out which worried me. I read most of this and it was very concerning. The whole thing did not sit right with me and this stemmed back to the Chloe White case. What kind of business was this that puts a woman through this?

Thank you for yet another exaggerated and untruthful review. It’s disappointing to see this level of effort put into fabricating negativity rather than constructive feedback. We stand by our commitment to build a professional and supportive workplace, despite false claims to the contrary. If you'd read the Chloe White case you would have realised it was all fabricated and the company were successful in defending the claim! If you had dedicated as much energy to your role as you have to posting reviews, perhaps your experience here would have been different. We wish you the best in finding an environment more suited to your expectations.

Traumatic Experience

Pros

Coffee machine is 10/10, would queue again. Meeting rooms can be a calm little sanctuary… provided senior management isn’t doing laps.

Cons

The culture can feel a bit performative. Lots of smiles, but not always a sense of genuine trust. Management interactions felt unpredictable. You might leave a conversation reassured, then later…… Overall there’s constant eggshell-walking, anxiety, and a general “don’t say the wrong thing” atmosphere. It left me feeling pretty shaken.
