Pros

You gain a lot of experience in the power and gas markets.

Cons

No work/life balance. You will not gain the time lost back. CEO was rude. This is the team that will stay late because of others' laziness. Not worth it. Especially when you bring ideas that could alleviate some of that additional pressure... They'll try to sell it to you like you're doing something groundbreaking and important, but you're not. The leadership doesn't want to see you promoted because then they'd have to replace you which is almost impossible to do.

Pros

Calpine is a great place to advance your career. It is not uncommon to find directors in their 20's. I would say the average age of an employee here is ~33. The atmosphere is relatively laid-back and people enjoy a proper work-life balance. Most people are out of the office by 5 PM. Calpine also has great benefits and an attractive bonus program (when actually paid). Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and a 401k matching program (100% up to 5%).

Cons

Just like many other energy firms, talent comes and goes. Calpine is considered a stepping stone by many to reach the levels of the banks.
