Pros

work from home. Some talented teammates (I said 'some')

Cons

The most terrible place I've ever worked in. The lack of appreciation for hard work resulted in the resign of talented employees .. High turnover, the management didn't care about it. Poor management, many managers don't have people management skills. Last year, many people quited, leaving behind a group of individuals who are now simply going through the motions. Due to the influx of new hires, these individuals who are coasting at work were promoted to the position of team lead. Avoid joining this place. Don't waste your time here.

We are disappointed to read of your experience of working at Canonical. Whilst it might be your personal perception, it is untrue to say that we do not care when exceptional people leave Canonical. We put tremendous effort into selecting great talent and this is a topic that drives many of our people based initiatives. Additionally we do not have high turnover or attrition rates, in fact we have seen our overall attrition rate drop over the last year. We do promote opportunities to develop an individual's career and there have been many instances where good people have been promoted into leader roles. We are looking to design a more robust management and leadership programme that will be offered once ready. This is on top of the management training all our new joiners with management responsibility receive as part of their induction week training.

Shocking upper and middle management, no coherent business plan

Pros

- Work from home, if you can hack it - Travel - Great technical colleagues, many of whom will become your friends

Cons

- Run into the ground by a bi-polar, psychopathic, megalomaniac founder who has no coherent strategy to make money, and surrounds himself with like-minded yes men. - Middle management has no clue how to run its engineering teams, with many spineless people who only look out for themselves and are happy to stab others in the back - Upper management are the founder's puppets who say one thing and then do another Canonical used to be a fun place to work with an exciting future. After over 10 years in existence, it's still not profitable, and the founder is so desperate to succeed that he rules with an iron fist and micromanages every aspect of the business. At company meetings, he has each team march into his Principal's Office to explain themselves, while he rips people apart for not knowing obscure facts.
