Pros
I was very surprised by the thoroughness of the on-boarding process at Carmeuse. Before I started, I received a welcome package in the mail with a wide variety of items. On day one, I was quickly made to feel at home during a day of orientation; however, the on-boarding didn't stop there. I was given a two week schedule to meet with all different members of the company - from coworkers on my team to senior managers of other divisions - to learn more about their roles and how my position might interact with them in the future. I was not assigned any projects during these two weeks, instead I was given the opportunity to get to know the company, their processes, and most importantly the people. Carmeuse places a very high value on their employees, and that value can be seen in the way people interact with one another. After my on-boarding was completed, I noticed that the energy, fun attitudes, and respect did not go away. Subject matter experts are always willing to give advice and answer questions, supervisors maintain open door policies, and I am given the flexibility and the trust to manage my time and my schedule without micromanagement.
Cons
Divisions are relatively siloed and there can be a fear of change, however, if you present a well-thought out business plan change can be made.
Some internal processes can become bogged down by too many layers of bureaucracy.
