An easily avoidable, nightmarish organization to work for

Pros

Cold brew coffee, kombucha, craft beer on tap It's, at a minimum, an opportunity for those desperate to get their foot in the door of a tech company

Cons

While things may seem peachy for a bit here, you may realize some things that are common tech company red flags: - Being asked to do more than your job description (with no additional compensation). Even being asked to take over other positions after they (wisely) got out of dodge; if you ask to be compensated properly for assuming more positions and duties, you will be given a run around about how the company can't afford it (but can somehow give a promotion or 3 to your boss who is offloading all this extra work onto you) - You request a cost-of-living raise and are told there is simply no money in the budget for it. Or you ask for the company to fund external or online classes to advance yourself and always receive stalling answers (seriously, this company will not even spend ~$20/month for online classes to make you better at your job or move up in the company). Or you hope for a holiday bonus until you realize they set unrealistic sales goals so that they can tell you that holiday bonuses won't happen because their targets weren't reached. All 3 of these things Cayuse will brag about to potential/new hires, but eventually you realize you will never receive it and any vague promises to "look into it" are just stalling tactics - Maybe you ask your boss or team lead for a career roadmap to give you some direction in a mostly directionless company, only for them to respond as if they have no idea what a roadmap is and that you should create your own roadmap. If you are a Software Engineer I, for example, there are no concrete clear guidelines on how to move to Software Engineer II--the process to move up seems purposely ambiguous so that they can keep moving the goalposts each time you ask for a promotion (and raise, are you noticing a trend?). - Pointing out communication issues in the company, training gaps and holes, people not doing their jobs, or general concerns about customer satisfaction and optics will often lead to your boss(es) ignoring, deflecting, and/or retaliating to any constructive feedback. - You search for "Cayuse Core Values" and realize that it's very difficult to find any; there may be a reason for that. - You start noticing an astounding turn-over rate, people quitting without explanation, and a sizable round of layoffs every year or two and wonder when it will be your turn. - This is true for a lot of companies, to be fair, but there is *no* wage transparency. You may have a vastly different salary than the person sitting next to you with the same title and doing approximately the same work. There is no vision or direction for this company; it's like the CEO and executives are people who got into the stock market and have a full-blown freakout every time the wind shifts. To wit, the company was Cayuse, then it was Evisions, then it was Cayuse and Evisions under the same umbrella, then it was Cayuse and Evisions separating, then it was Cayuse bought out by a NYC investment firm, then it was Cayuse buying up a bunch of other companies--and all the while customers are angry because some of them are paying money for a product that isn't even fully functional. The ground always seems to be shaking beneath Cayuse's feet and they're simply trying to stay afloat. I would stay far away from Cayuse and find a career at a company that will actually value you and offer stability to your career goals.

Pros

Helping customers do research to find cures for cancer. Etc... customers are awesome put in a lot of hard work using The product. Regular employees work there butts off to meet crazy federal grant submission deadlines with less and less head count.

Cons

The senior management got rid of all the people that didn’t agree with her questionable decisions, and promoted no experience managers to Directors. For a company with 50 people, to lose 6 in one month is a sign of no direction or some ceo funding a bonus, making numbers at any expense, including product stability and reliability. CEO takes advice from very inexperienced senior management. Between the lies and deception, regular employees have no idea the crap management have been planing, and how they have no qualms letting any one go. Cayuse Employees are some of the brightest people I have ever worked with. The CEO seems to be the one that is causing the exodus either by choice or by using bad information from senor management that violated our security policies, losing one of the biggest selling points for cayuse. The CEO has a track record of this. I hope the investors can save cayuse before some security breach forces the company into insolvency because of all the lawsuites.

Pros

Good People (some of those who might remain). 401k vested from start - smaller than average match though. Covid vaccine is required to go to office (good thing if you believe in science and research) Good number of paid holidays. The company’s mission is very noble (reduce research admins burden). Although, having said that, the product offering is a disservice. More importantly, after this round of layoffs, their vision and mission statements appear to be empty words. This is simply stating facts for those who are also reading glassdoor reviews to look for a better opportunity.

Cons

Products were rushed to the market - tons of defects and VERY slow in cases. Management never really heard or took action when people started leaving or others called out that the deadlines were impossible. Yet those who made those decisions are still at the helm. Working in product development or customer facing roles, you will have to constantly update and change your plans due to dumpster fires in the apps… and then go tell that to your clients. The company just had a round of layoffs due to over promising and under delivering, yet they are hiring more sales roles. Not developers, not IT, not dev support or Devops… SALES! Probably to elaborate more smoke and mirrors as opposed to fixing the problems with the apps.
