    No Opinion of CEO

I have been working at Centrelink full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Pay ok once you get to the top of your pay band.

    Cons

Micromanagement of staff to the point of causing mental illness issues, old systems that are poor and new systems that are worse with more issues. Career progression if you are friends with the right people and a lot of sucking up. No job security , future looks bleak as giving jobs to casuals and full time staff spend time fixing the casuals mistakes or apologising for casuals wrong information given out. ICT barely...

    Advice to Management

Sites need faster network, staff aren’t slowing the organisation down is the over complicated old systems that don’t work. Simply the systems, it should not take 15 min to change an address, ridiculous over complicated. Employee full time staff, this country needs stability and makes it harder for Australians to get home loans if everyone is casual.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Centrelink full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Being able to help real customers in real need and knowing you made a difference (not the ethically devoid that lie about needing to go to children's funerals or think that they are in hardship even though they have 58k in the bank just because they don't think they should have to spend their money)

    Cons

Management is falling apart, decisions are made about processes without fully considering the impacts. Work is allocated automatically but it isn't what it is supposed to be so goes to the wrong person but they never bothered teaching staff how to tell the system what the work is so it can get to the right place so everything is prioritised wrong. Everything is done with the assumption that things work perfectly and customers...

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to customer facing staff and consult with us about problems. Bring back system testing and include the customer facing network like the office staff and call centre staff. The whole world doesn't revolve around processing.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Centrelink full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay and benefits when the union and department can agree on new agreements

    Cons

Lack of growth and opportunity for change. Growth hampered by long term employees doing the bare minimum to get by and being chosen for higher duties.

    Advice to Management

Give preference to ongoing staff for career opportunities instead of short term contracts to fill roles.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Centrelink full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Wage - keeps me going until I finish my degree.

    Cons

No matter how longer you are with the company, and how well you do your job, you are overlooked if you are not considered a team player, or someone in the "in" crowd, regardless of your experience and qualifications.

    Advice to Management

Be more aware of what is going on in your company, not just what you are being told by your middle management lackeys. There are numerous staff working for your company, doing a better job than others who have been promoted, and yet they continue to be overlooked because of personal opinions as opposed to professional competency.
