Note on "greedy management." Several CMOs income in 2020 exceeded the entire management team. There are many ways for CMOs to make excellent income. The firm is majority owned by the founder/CEO who benefits directly with the firm's profitability. This may be the basis of the statement. If interviewing, be sure to explore this with the company.
The CMOS, for the most part, are terrific. They are smart, collaborative, and giving.
Cons
The leadership team is greedy. Many CMOs work way too many hours for far less than what they can and should make. The revenue splits are egregious with new people taking home well under 50% of their billing. The company also asks you to do a a lot of unpaid work.
Incredible opportunity to use your full careers worth of learning and actually make big things happen. Working on the leadership team of 2-3 mid-size companies at the same time allows you to focus on the key strategic initiatives, make a big impact, and not get bored. Incredible group of CMOs to learn from and work with it a big plus too.
Cons
There is no place to hide when working with mid-size companies. Our CMOs work with the CEO/owner of our clients and must be able make big things happen quickly, without a bunch of marketing babel.
