Pros

There are some really lovely, talented people.

Cons

The head office has to be the unhappiest office I have ever worked in and I have spent my career in retail head offices. People cry and vomit with anxiety frequently. You’re not allowed to have music on in the office, they enforced full office working during covid when the government advice was work from home, no flash wipes or disinfectant sprays to clean your desk area, staff are expected to pay for their own tea, coffee and milk but the owners will continue to use the staff funded supplies. You are expected to start early and stay late in order to ‘lead from the front’ despite what your contracted hours are.

Dear former manager, While we are disappointed that you didn’t enjoy your time with us, it is our understanding that Glassdoor is a platform for posting genuine reviews backed with facts. This review is untrue and has been flagged as such with Glassdoor to ensure that readers are not misinformed by your comments here, which enjoy the veil of anonymity provided by Glassdoor. These concerns have at no point been raised with our HR team. Nevertheless, we are open to receiving specific feedback from you. If the environment was as you portray, it would be unlikely that we would have the length of service that we have – we have many colleagues with over 10 years’ service in the business. We do not have colleagues who frequently vomit or cry in the office with anxiety and, this is an outrageous accusation. As a family business we a well-established track record of being incredibly supportive and compassionate with colleagues who have experienced health issues either themselves or within their families. We also fund free for all colleagues, confidential access to two independent counselling services, including one which specialises in mental health issues as we are very aware of the impact of the recent pandemic on colleague’s wellbeing. In addition, as a business, in the last year, we have also funded a Mental Health First Aid course and Mental Health Awareness Course for colleagues and are currently awaiting dates from the college. This is all factual examples of how we support colleagues in the workplace, even where they are experiencing challenges outside of work. We expect our employees to work within their contracted hours. As with any business , there are occasions when overtime occurs, and it can be claimed and paid. The allegation of us enforcing full office working is also untrue as is the allegation that no cleaning materials were provided. In addition to the provision of masks, screens and santiser we have an external cleaner who comes into the office several times a week. Cleaning materials are freely available in our stockroom. We have always had and maintain a full COVID health & safety plan in place. Throughout the Covid pandemic, and still to this point, we have colleagues work from home when and where possible, following the Government guidance. Full office working hours were never enforced. Chisholm Hunter came out the pandemic stronger and healthier and we are expanding our business. This would not have been possible if as you said that the company has no leadership. We now have a strong e-commerce team operating under great stewardship that is dedicated to brand positioning. Your comments on brand positioning undermine our colleagues’ (and your previous colleagues’) hard work and it is also untrue. For the avoidance of doubt, the Directors and owners of the business contribute to the costs of tea and coffee supplies monthly and cleaning materials are provided by the business in addition to a cleaner. The business has also provided full office lunches in recognition of the support of colleagues and to welcome back to the workplace. We are unclear on what additional expectation there is. We are proud of our track record of diversity and inclusivity. Our core values are HEART, Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork. These values stand the test of time and they are not 80’s value as you stated in the review. We wish you the best in finding future employment. Thank you

5 Star Fake reviews

Pros

None, in hindsight you see truly what a manipulative and cruel culture there is in the head office. I can guarantee all the 5 star reviews are fake, just like trust pilot, as current employees are coerced into writing reviews for higher management.

Cons

An awful environment of bullying and blame culture, quite common to see people crying at their desks. No matter how hard you try/work it will never be good enough. To find out more, simply ask any former employee, I can ensure you there are is a whole host of talented people ready to tell you about their horrendous experience.

Hi, We are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience working with us. We truly do care about our employees and their well-being. We also encourage employees to speak up if they have any issues and this will be listened to. We are family run business and we like to treat our employees as such. We do understand that the jewellery sales environment can be challenging at times. We always ensure that support and guidance is given to employees when needed and help them to achieve their potential. Sorry to hear that you feel that this support was not given to you. We will ensure that we pass this feedback on so that we can improve in the future. Many thanks, Chisholm Hunter HR Team

Pros

Other employees are lovely, however everyone is looking for their own way out so they probably won't be around long.

Cons

A thankless job, continually expected to go above and beyond with never a grateful word from higher management. Absolutely 0 trust between management and employees, common occurrence having staff members in tears, often after being wrongly accused of stealing. No real training programs offered and if you are lucky enough to get on your JET course, you will have the total cost deducted when you leave the company. CEO is so far removed that he doesn't know how to treat people, let alone staff with basic human courtesy.
