Top heavy company with bad middle management, and no desire to improve working conditions.
Pros
If you are an IBEW employee the salaries and benefits are good. If you are a VP or above the same is true.
Cons
Anyone below a VP that is not a represented employee has lesser wages and benefit packages than their union coworkers. There are no defined processes in my department and it relies on institutional knowledge to get work done. There is no clear cut person responsible for assigning work nor checking to see that it was completed correctly. There is a years long backlog of work with no clear direction how it is to be completed. Many positions are left unfilled so they can contract the work out, this does not save any money but it does decrease productivity and morale. The middle management shows no ability to advocate for their employees nor have they shown any concern for employees welfare. Many of the employees are talented but are not empowered by management to improve the work processes, systems, and general working conditions. I feel bad for the rate payers because there are savings to be had, but CEA just keeps spending Capital money on contractors that cause rates to go up. Overall a miserable place to work.
