Pros

1.) Weekly Direct Deposit and 2.) See 1

Cons

1.) A typical day at work: If QC, do your job and you will find yourself terminated by a captive posing as an "Engineer". HR is completely in on it. 2.) What I learned: Cianbro is what happens when good people look the other way, then cave in to their own cowardice and savage good people on the job, rationalizing it as "having to put food on my family table". 3.) Management: Corrupt, shameless, pure hypocrisy in motion. 4.) Workplace Culture: "The company" attempts to impose a terminal fear of writing ANYTHING in an email. 5.) The hardest part of the job: Stomaching the insidious hypocrisy. 6.) The most enjoyable part of the job: Leaving the awful memory of having had anything to do with these people in the rear-view mirror, growing smaller by the day.

Pros

Occasional employee/company lunches Located in an area that needs jobs

Cons

Management needs restructuring and organizing. No one ever seemed to know what was going on at any level, and asking questions about anything was not received well. Middle management was bloated with people that had seemingly nothing to do. Schedule changed often- what I was told would be a fairly steady schedule with some overtime was completely false. Schedule also changed without much notice, which can be tough if you have children or other things in your life. Even though my job was supposed to be a "fixed base location" I was often sent to other locations to work for weeks at a time. Equipment is older and constantly breaking. Management is not receptive to suggestions that may improve workflow or really any ideas other than their own. Safety is stressed, but not really enforced. Health insurance is astronomically expensive and did not cover much.

Pros

The company evolves and adapts well to changing markets. Looks ahead to where the work will be. Gives employees the physical tools and technology needed to succeed. Safety and health are important - daily group stretching, reimbursement for gym membership and weight loss programs, no tobacco products allowed on company grounds or on project sites. Lots of good, honest, caring people at this company. It's employee owned, so there's good opportunity for profit sharing.

Cons

Pay doesn't seem commensurate with education/experience. It's almost impossible to get a raise. As with many construction companies, there's too much "crony-ism" which allows incompetent people to do well while the work horses are overlooked. Lots of favoritism - low paid workers getting special trips and bennies because of who they know. It's difficult to advance above middle management - even though it's an employee-owned company, the top brass are almost all descendants of the original 4 brothers who owned the company, even tho several of those folks aren't very competent. The company is still too rooted in old ways - the headquarters is in the middle of nowhere, 2 hours from the nearest airport.
