Pros

Work from home. If you’re completely incompetent, prepare to excel and be promoted. If you have any talent at all, be prepared to be insulted and devalued on a daily basis. And then laid off.

Cons

Ego maniacal megalomaniacs who have never accomplished anything except losing clients. Get ready for gaslighting like you have never experienced. No QA? Let’s test in prod!! So you want to work for a company that consistently loses profits? This is the place for you! Want to be hired for a position you have experience in? Great! You’ll do something totally outside your skill set just so you can be judged as a failure! Take the same path any potential clients have — do your due diligence and move on.

Pros

Circonus has a very strong culture of honesty and integrity that's reflected in every aspect of the organization. In the business itself, there is no distinction between customer and user, and the business model is transparent: So-called "dark patterns" of revenue maximization are non-existent. In the product, we built mathematically sound solutions to address customer needs, rather than (unfortunately more common in this space) naive implementations, that add a sales bullet point, but that would have resulted in misleading summary statistics. Data integrity was taken very seriously in my time there, as was operational security. We tried to solve important customer problems in the right way.

Cons

Some NIH syndrome in parts of the technical stack. The product UI never really gelled for me, which took something away from my pride in the product we built.

Pros

In my view Circonus is the quintessential startup even though it's been around for many years. There is great room to explore and try new methodologies, which is not something I have had access to historically. If you want to test and learn, in a safe space, this company is for you. If you need an army of people to get work done on your behalf, look elsewhere. You will be given some latitude to apply your skills in a complex and highly technical space, but you will need to step up and execute. So, if you're looking for a think tank, this isn't it. If you want to work in a place with solid values (which to me means, that leadership is made up of people with sound mind and good intentions who will stand beside the team when the going gets tough) then give this place a try. Also, if you're an engineer, the team is super solid. The founder is still heavily involved in the day to day operations so it's a great way to learn from not only a strong team, but the folks who built the product from the ground up. Also, the supporting teams are very receptive to engaging with engineering to support general understanding of the tech.

Cons

It's a small company with a majority of its staff working remotely, if you aren't comfortable working in a quiet space (which most of the time is what the office is like) then you should probably work somewhere else.
