Pros

You want to experience real life examples of: 1. Nepotism 2. Brown-nosing 3. Politicking 4. Gaslighting 5. Blame-shifting 6. Lack of scruples Great firm to work at if: 1. Your surname is Lim 2. You are female 3. You flatter the boss and agree with everything they say If you meet all 3 requirements, no competence required!

Cons

*If you are a male - all of this applies exponentially 1. Scope creep is the norm. Everyday is a surprise waiting to happen. New files you have not been trained for will appear spontaneously. They will always be described as "easy" and "common sense". 2. Unless you fit one of the 3 categories above, everything you do will be CAPSLOCKED SHOUTED AT IN OFFICE GROUP CHAT. Belitting you is daily fare. 3. Rewards, benefits and pay are arbitrary and unrelated to your actual performance (and they will take every opportunity to shortchange you). 4. If a problem occurs - if you are a favoured sycophant, it will be handed to someone else to handle. If not, you handle and you do so on your own time and dime. 5. Everything is easy until a favoured one has to do it. Then it becomes 'too menial for them to handle' - see item 4 above. 6. Trust, integrity and respect are all lacking. Ask for things in black and white and make sure you read it 3 times to ensure they did not slip in surprises. 7. You are viewed always as a tool unless you brown-nose. In which case, you can expect to have favours heaped upon you.

Pros

Location is close to Lau Pa Sat.

Cons

Micromanaging, aggressive boss who expects you to stay until ridiculous hours every day just to "show initiative" and will throw around personal attacks for not knowing things that have not been taught. Plays favorites. Will deliberately set juniors up to fail and blame them for mistakes that they had nothing to do with. They put an illegal clause in the employment contract. "Not allowed to take ANY leave (including sick leave) until you have worked for one full year". Salary was lower than initially agreed upon without any mention of a probation period in either interview or employment contract. Job has exceptionally high turnover due to poor treatment, zero training, and terrible management. DO NOT take a position with this law firm. They might promise you training and mentorship in the interview but it's a lie. They expect you to magically know exactly how they want things done, and will be very nasty and rude if you don't. Highly unprofessional conduct.

Pros

a. Bright & Clean environment Every morning you get greeted with friendly reminder to not spill your coffee on the expensive carpet instead of the usual good morning :) b. Plenty of chances to display your team spirit You get to cover other people's job Some like to take mc before a public holiday or annual leave just to come back and say they are in close contact with covid person thus have to work from home. And not say anything about laptop not working/email not synced until asked in the late afternoon so as to skip work for half a day c. A job that will enrich personal growth & development Whenever there is an issue/complaint, they will try to push blame first instead of solving it. “I don’t know I don’t know don’t ask me” / “I don’t know, the file is not with me” I mean we are all trying to understand the situation so we can move on to the next step but most of the people are not cooperative at all. So if you are the only responsible one, you get to handle everything from start to end d. A job that allows for continuous learning As mentioned over interview, the learning curve is steep. You get to learn new things that will blow your mind every day. e. They like to make unnecessary comments like how cheapo a client is just because the client sold a condo and purchased a hdb. f. There are complaints and they like to use money to solve the issue e.g. waive $5 cashier’s order fee/ discount of $200/ waive entire transaction’s fee entirely g. Some lawyers send their own emails, fix their own appointment. Some secretaries collect documents from clients and call clients to answer queries. Some lawyer never sends a single email in the whole transaction and only meet clients during appointment to sign documents. Some secretary cannot speak English properly and thus assign others to fix appointment for her/ collect documents for her/ print out all the documents including WhatsApp conversations because she cannot be bothered to learn how to connect her phone to laptop and click the print button. h. Some lawyer sits on the cases, there is no updates at all, and clients don’t even know the lawyer-in-charge’s name. Some lawyer would go on leave or MC last minute which obviously upsets some clients as clients had to apply time off from work to go to the firm for appointment. It is fine to take mc if you are unwell. But imagine having to find out that the person supposedly on mc is drinking cocktail at Dempsey in the afternoon from igstory. i. In the short period of time I was there, 14 tendered resignation/quit - that is 1 resignation in every 3 days (fyi it is before the bonus period) j. If you watched , this is the Singapore version - toxicity in office, except that the girls in the show are actually hot.
