Pros

free food, great co-workers, flexible hours,

Cons

The main problem with this company is the Head Baker, Maury Rubin. He does not communicate with his employees in a respectful manner. His tone is condescending when things do not go his way. The customers who come into The City Bakery are rude to the employees, but he will do anything to appease them to save his failing business. Several of his sister bakeries, Birdbath, has closed within the past year. Here's the best part: he'll shut it down without warning the employees. If there is a delay in payroll, do not expect an email. He will say nothing and hope you show up to work for free. There is a lot of responsibility that is not worth the pay. You're on your feet for hours only to get a thirty minute break in a fast paced environment. There is no proper HR department or management.

Pros

Absolutely no Pros. Just having a job

Cons

I am very dissatisfied with this company having worked here for 5 years has been the worst 5 years of my life! I don’t even know where to start. MAURY RUBIN is the owner of the company and he is a person who shouldn’t be trusted, he is a person who entertains the blame game, gets mad in front of customers towards his employees, VERY unethical practices in the preparation of its food items for his customers. Everything about the company is toxic, treat his employees unfairly, disrespectful and unprofessional. The company has minimal room for its employees for a raise of pay, to move up to a better position and even to speak about private concerns is a problem. Your pay checks will be delayed every other week, which is unprofessional as well. Please run from this company do not work here! I warned you DO NOT WORK HERE. Previous post from former employees says it all. This is why this company has a high turn over rate. Additionally, the kitchen staff do not wear gloves when preparing food, the kitchen itself is dirty, does not follow DOH procedures at all and the owner thinks it’s okay. Great and awesome people worked at this place, but never stayed for long, the only current employees that’s been there for over 5 years are the ones that are old and can’t find another job and it’s a few. Again Please do not waste your time applying/working/even purchasing anything from this company. It’s all toxic and garbage.

Pros

free lunch. beautiful building to work in

Cons

Oh, where to begin, so much was bad about this job. The problem is the owner, Maury Rubin. He’s literally figured out a legal way to abuse people, to his delight. You will be berated for things out of your control, you will be undermined by him behind your back, then told you’re “unprofessional” if you ask what’s going on or complain. You will be blamed for his mistakes. He enjoys pitting employees against each other and watching the fallout. You will be treated with incredible, blatant disrespect and your hard work will be ignored. There are no benefits or healthcare, although that was promised during hiring. Refuses to offer a contract. Misery loves company, and Mr Rubin is a very miserable person looking drag everything and everyone down. Nothing can be put in writing, as it seems he’s probably been sued before and is trying to leave no traces. Literally the worst job I’ve ever had. Run away. There is insanely high turnover of employees at this company, this is why.
