Looks great from the outside

Pros

The other employees make this place worth it, you meet some interesting, really great people. The pay is also pretty good, but it's almost not worth dealing with management.

Cons

Schedules suck, it would be great to have a set schedule, each day having different times in and out gets tiring. Along the same lines, not being able to know and/or choose your days off for the week makes having a life outside of work hard. You know you've got a problem when employees can't pinpoint exactly why they feel a heavy melancholy when working here. You ask them "why does this place suck? "; the pay is good, the boats look nice, the people you work with are great, it's an overall pretty easy job, and the hours are steady. This place has the potential to be such a great job but management (marine ops) , all of them, are bringing it down to an almost unbearable level. Which leads to high turnover. People get written up so often or "bonuses" pulled that its harboring an unsafe work environment where employees are afraid to call in issues with boats whether mechanical or self inflicted for fear of unreasonable punishment.

Pros

Most of the people are great to work with, and the benefits are surprisingly good. Overall, the job itself is interesting and can even be fulfilling at times. The folks in charge are generally good, hard working people put into an unfortunately difficult position, but will do what they can to work with you when possible. Aside from people from certain neighborhoods I wont name-drop on, most of the passengers are friendly and happy to be there; The smiles are a bit contagious and you will feel like you're genuinely running a highly desired service for the community. If you're a people person and have a bit of a flair for customer service, you can get through your long shifts a bit more pleasantly by engaging with the customers and helping them out with their travels and commutes.

Cons

This job will absolutely DESTROY your personal life. Completely. Utterly. Horrendous hours that, with commute, could see you dedicate upwards of 14-15 hours of your day to work. You WILL be physically, mentally, and even emotionally exhausted after even just a few days. And that's where the real problems come in: This entire service was rushed WAY before it was ready. The crew demands are absolutely unrealistic with the numbers there are to work with, and the operational tempo is only growing with new routes being slapped on within mere months of the service's launch. If you bite the bullet and jump into the chaos, expect to spend, at minimum, 6 day's a week working without a day off, and it's quite normal(As you'll find out rather quickly) for folks to work well over 10-20 days without a day off. If you have a wife and kids, be prepared to never see them(Not awake, anyway.). If you're single, be prepared to stay single and rarely, if ever, get to see your friends. Days off are few and far between, and often wedged between a shift that ends at almost midnight, and a shift that starts as early as 3AM. I can't stress enough how utterly ridiculous the scheduling is, and unless you're REALLY passionate about the work, you'll be hunting for new work within a month or two.

Pros

Will meet some great people who have the knowledge and expertise to get the job done and will go out of their way to teach you.

Cons

Not a great place if you have an education and have future plans for professional growth. They don't consider qualifications as a necessity. Need to work your way up. Work life balance is non existent. Poor communication from upper management leaving a lot of decisions and plans in disarray.
