Steer clear!!

Pros

Very few, except there have been some very good people working there. Most have already left though. And on their terms; no one was fired. Lots of free time because well, leadership, or lack thereof; many people don’t know which direction they’re going one week after the next.

Cons

The CEO is dishonest to his core. Inconsistent in his leadership, he changes course too often, leading to confusion and wasted resources. When someone puts in their notice to quit, he completely freaks out. (There have been a Lot!) No inclusion, no tolerance at All. It’s a narrow minded outlook at this company with only a few views allowed on a regular basis. Everyone else is shot down - be careful what you say on chat! Within a few months of starting there, I was fearful I had joined a completely fraudulent company. Data science is so disconnected from “real” science, it’s almost comical.

We find it very unlikely that this is from an actual former employee, since none of these concerns were ever raised to our HR or DEI representatives. But whoever it is from, they are not committed to our mission to improve the sustainability, kindness, and nutrition of our food system. We also all share a tremendous respect for our Founder and CEO. This and all other recent 1 star reviews came within a few weeks on the heels of our wonderful teams recent massive successes all over the news. Coincidence? Anyone interested in one of our new roles but concerned by these “reviews” is encouraged to reach out to any of our existing colleagues via LinkedIn.

Pros

none. total scammers that don't have a good product. three team leads have left in the past year. hr left after three weeks. an employee called OSHA on them and they got fined for lots of things.

Cons

bullying, favoritism, don't know what they're doing, incompetent CEO, horrible compensation, expect you onsite for 9 hours a day

We continue to strive to make the best plant-based foods on the planet. Our recent successes have resulted in much interest: our products have won accolades from famous chefs and will be launched in Michelin star rated restaurants next month. We were recently awarded “Best New Product” by VegNews, and have raised a record breaking seed round from some of the most sophisticated and mission driven tech investors on the planet. This 1-star review and a few others were all posted in March 2023 seemingly in response to our successes, but we’re glad that folks are paying attention! While constructive feedback is always welcome, we don’t have time to address every false claim in this clearly orchestrated wave of biased reviews. Instead, we are laser focused on building a food system that is more just and sustainable, and we continuously strive to improve our internal teams’ processes and procedures. We also continue to grow rapidly, as we grew throughout the pandemic and a tight economy. As one of the largest seed stage food tech stage startup, we are in the fortunate position to be able to continue to grow and build our leadership suite despite the economic conditions (and with the recent influx of rockstar applications are excited to make several additional hires soon). Because of our revolutionary products and IP, we have continued to raise money during the economic downturn last year and were able to avoid layoffs altogether. The claim of unreasonable work hours is misleading. Mission-driven startups building important, positive technologies generally require more effort than conventional, larger companies. Like many companies do - startups or established- we ask our employees to be on-site for 9 hours per day, allowing time for a lunch break, with exceptions made, for example, for parents of young children. Our compensation package is competitive and ranks in the top 5% of seed-stage startups per the Pave and Option Impact databases (https://www.pave.com/, https://www.optionimpact.com), which is why we’ve been able to attract and hire the best talent. The OHSA fine allegation is demonstrably false, as anyone can confirm by viewing the public record. We continuously work with CalOSHA to ensure our facilities meet the highest safety standards. The innovative nature of our approach to food-science blurs the line between traditional biochemistry labs and kitchen work. OSHA is helping us understand how best to manage our mixed purpose lab. We welcome their help and input because we take the safety and well-being of our employees very seriously. We continue to improve our organization and hire effective leaders and we offer many internal channels to escalate concerns and are always open to hearing feedback internally to effectively resolve any issues.

Jealousy is the best compliment you can receive!

Pros

The CEO has hand picked true rockstars to be part of this company. Don't be misled by the jealous ones who didn't make it for whatever reason. Their comments are all about their own hate, not about Climax. Data Science, Protein, Analytical Chemistry, Microbiology, Product Development and Commercialization teams all work together so closely- a concentrated collection of brilliant, dynamic, innovative and kind people. The CEO is a passionate visionary, a gentle human and mission driven leader- shame on all the haters. They are just kicking themselves and having tantrums.

Cons

Pivoting can be stressful, but is the only way to keep moving forward in this space. Climax doesn't hire desperately, but waits for the right people. Many positions at all levels still need filling, which is challenging, but that is only because the internal bar is high, and we are patient. The start-up shakeout has happened and we are now left with the pb cream. Come join us!
