Pros

being a 24 hours place in the hospitality industry made working hours flexible but that's about it aside from seeking camaraderie the other employees also suffering along side you.

Cons

management proved at every opportunity that they didn't care for the concerns or opinions of their employees and view everyone as expendable "resources" that can be easily replaced. their actions is not so much "draining the swamp" as disrespecting passionate employees that thought they could really make a difference.

Speaking for the company, we appreciate feedback and always look for ways to improve. What’s important to know, and for some context, is that recently Cloud5 implemented several key strategic changes. The company restructured its Customer Support department, under a new VP of Customer Support, who was promoted from within, to improve efficiency and customer responsiveness. Some employees were affected both directly and indirectly. Change is hard and we understand not everyone will always be happy with every change we make. We do know and appreciate that everyone is working hard – striving to have a culture that is customer and action oriented and where accountability is valued. That said, the leadership team knows it has and will probably again, fumble along the way. For those times, we take accountability and use each as an opportunity to learn and grow into a better, stronger company. We have an open-door policy and fully encourage everyone to walk into the offices of your boss, execs or HR and share your thoughts and ideas at any time. Now, speaking for myself as the business unit leader, I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved in the last year. But I know there are things we can do better, such as continue to improve employee collaboration and communication. On that note, we are getting ready to launch a program that engages employees on an individual basis to build awareness and ownership of our company mission and what it means to each employee. I’m excited to get started and see the impact across our organization. Keep in mind this is a public forum and we can’t control the content that’s posted, its veracity or the motivations behind some postings. Having said that, we are very open to constructive feedback whether it comes internally or externally through sites such as Glassdoor. Our goal is to provide the best hospitality communications products and services, and have some fun along the way. That’s what Cloud5 is all about. My door is open --- happy to chat with anyone about the company we’re building, our growth and future direction.

Pros

Challenging work — I learned a lot while working here. The employees who work the front lines are mostly very hard working, honest, and good friends I still keep close. I was lucky and my direct manager was the most capable and compassionate one of them all.

Cons

Upper management is truly uninspiring as many other reviewers have mentioned. Even mid-tier managers struggle to develop meaningful connections with their employees, and lack fundamental interpersonal attributes such as empathy, and honesty. Some of the worst examples for basic human interactions between superiors and subordinates have been set in my tenure at Cloud5. Our leadership has yet to learn how to admit mistakes and wrongdoings. They cannot and will not ask for help when they are lost. The thought of making themselves vulnerable causes them to instead behave with belligerence. And at the very helm of these unappealing personalities sits a leader so brazen, and obsessed with his fantasy of success that he refuses to accept when he’s objectively wrong. I’m sorry, but just because a Forbes.com blogger mentioned anecdotally that hospitality titans can stand up to AirBnB doesn’t mean that shoehorning all company development into legacy hotel technology is backed by any actual tangible market research. As contributors, we’re allowed to have some say in what the products should do, and who they should appeal to. And if someone disagrees with you, don’t lash out. Don’t even jokingly say “you better not come into the office tomorrow”, because it’s impossible to tell if you’re kidding. Don’t behave as if the company was previously failing under former leadership and you joining is somehow the Hail Mary pass. This alone has certainly caused many smart people to leave. I almost left in my first year here when I was told to my face by another leader that earning a networking certification through self study made me “no more valuable” to the team I was on.

Cloud5 is a good, thriving company that is now filled with extremely talented individuals who are passionate about the work that we do. While we are very happy to receive constructive input, unfortunately a select number of former employees have opted to weaponize Glassdoor, one of the negative aspects of social media. It’s important to know that making false and/or defamatory comments towards individuals within Cloud5 and/or the company in general, which these former employees have done, is against the guidelines of this open forum and is actionable legally. For anyone that is interested in a great career, with a growing and exciting tech company, give us a call or stop by our Chicago West Loop HQ to meet our team to learn what Cloud5 is truly about.

Pros

-Very bright folks in the technical roles. -Was a great place to build my resume and move on.

Cons

-Pay/Salary is atrocious — and don't expect more, ever. What makes this point even worse is that the company has hired several 6 figure employees in the past 6-12 months. -Upper management is a "good ol boys" club, all with folks who have worked with each other previously. -The office can be a toxic environment. It's not uncommon to hear screaming/yelling at a employee, including expletives, whether it be in person over the phone/conference call... Keep in mind that members of the NOC will be on the phone with customers while this happens — I am surprised that customers have not complained. -The sales team is the end-all, be-all department. What they say, goes. No matter how ridiculous or difficult the request. -RTFM....? (Documentation? What documentation?) There is zero true documentation, or official training for anything at this company. -Communication between all entities of the company is absolutely abysmal.... For example, an outage occurs and engineering is aware, as well as Tier 2... But the call center and/or Tier 1 staff are unaware. -Over-promise, under ... or quite possibly never deliver — this is true for both 'management to employee' interactions, as well as 'management to customer'. For example: sometimes during an outage we've been told to lie and state that there wasn't actually an outage. -Customers have been leaving at an alarming rate (in fact, at least one of the larger corporate customers are on their way out). -Employees have been leaving on their own accord, or being let go, without filling their position...their work is usually 'absorbed' into someone else's position, with no title change, or a title change with a verbal “promise” to increase salary in the future (don’t hold your breath). -Management seems to be setting the company up to look like it's in a better position (financially and morale) than it truly is. I believe this is so the company may be sold... Either outright, or to another management company/VC.
