Not Living up to Promises/Potential

Pros

- Remote first work option with optional co-working days (could change as they just purchased a 3-story building in Rancho Cordova) - Some amazing people that really care about others and our community - Fair pay for Sacramento - Women founded and owned & women in leadership roles** - Say they care about work/life balance and mental/personal health**

Cons

Clutch laid off contract employees in June 2023 due to a big contract ending and because they did not win any new contracts. They then laid off 12 – 14 back-office employees November 2023 (the week before Thanksgiving) citing lack of new contracts/work even though they originally anticipated hiring 100+ people in 2023. Layoffs happen, especially in this economy but it was so cold and horribly done by the leaders of the organization and HR, especially since Clutch claims to care so much about every individual and their mental/personal health. Shortly after the layoffs, news and articles came out that Clutch purchased a 3-story building in Rancho Cordova, plan to grow Clutch by a 100 employees (said that in 2023 as well and did not do that) and that the founders (Anne and Rachel) are starting two new businesses… Things are not adding up. There is a group that came from SAFE credit union and if you are in that group or close to someone from that group you are in a sweet spot at Clutch. If you’re a member of this group you have a very flexible work schedule, given more opportunities and are invited to exclusive events. If you are not in this group, you will feel like an outsider and have a very different set of rules to follow and a heavier workload. Back-office and contract employees are treated very differently as well. Many people on contracts are on multiple and overworked. On contract you can feel very excluded and like you are on your own island. The company seems great from the outside, but they spend a lot of money on making it seem that way (co-working days, paying to win awards, articles/publicity, posts on social media, etc): - winning awards (fastest growing company even though they’ve done lay-offs) - Women founded and owned but no maternity/paternity leave besides what is mandated by CA - No 401K match even though they promised one by the end of 2023… - Benefits are not great, especially if you have a family - Some great mid-level managers but a lot of senior leadership who are toxic and play favorites

Not a "best place to work"

Pros

Some of the best people in Sacramento work(ed) at Clutch. Skill wise and personality wise. Great time off benefits Remote work is primary (for now) Many other pro's that are now no longer applicable so I won't go into those

Cons

Clutch held so much promise and potential, and I genuinely believe the leadership had good intentions a year ago. But as growth was deprioritized and significant contracts started ending, things began to shift. I often told myself, "There are people smarter than me running this company and making these decisions." Yet, over time, I’ve come to question if that was actually true. The building purchase, for instance, seems to have been a misstep. While the Cal Competes tax credit could have been advantageous, it was unrealistic to expect we’d be able to meet the hiring targets required. Now, with the establishment of the owners’ new overseeing entity, it feels as if it’s becoming a means to safeguard the remaining employees they need for Clutch’s eventual closure. I hope this doesn’t drag their latest acquisition, RSE, down a similar path. The recent layoffs were handled poorly. Worse, people are now being terminated “for cause,” like performance issues, despite having a history of only positive feedback. It’s unfortunate that there’s now a group who call themselves the “People who escaped Anne & Rachel.” I hope future actions reflect the company’s best potential. Please, do better.

Smoke and Mirrors

Pros

- benefits package - remote work (but that's changing) - majority of worker bees and mid-management not hired through nepotism are talented and strong contributors

Cons

- toxic positivity (look it up) is pervasive - if you aren't in the inner circle the whole "human-centered" culture they sell won't apply to you - collectively the ELT isn't really offering true leadership for the organization - no clear direction or focus - dismissive of the number of hours people are putting in to support constantly changing and contradicting requests - lack of real transparency - impulsive founders with a false urgency that creates undue stress and confusion
