Pros

The fact that you get to write online.

Cons

College Magazine is not a good company. Staff writers are not paid for their work and are asked to work for free as a volunteer position for 10 hours a week. The same goes for interns. I had no support from the editorial staff and founder of the company. The editorial staff consists of inexperienced college students that do not have proper news judgment and do not help their writers. I had to write stories where the company only cared about student sources as in interviewing students on trivial things such as the attractive person in college, the top ten classes, and trivial issues that do not matter to college students. I had problems getting sources to speak to me and some of them wanted money, but when I told the company and its editorial team about it, they did absolutely nothing and were trying to report writers that didn’t fit their mold. Organizations and companies which are colleges and universities had trouble figuring out if College Magazine was a legitimate, reputable, creditable, and genuine news source. College Magazine did not defend me nor any of its writers. I resigned from the company after nearly a month on the job as College Magazine did not care about the issues that the writers are consistently facing on the job and didn’t help them. All College Magazine cares about is being in the “college experience bubble,” it’s an online shop called “The Quad,” and the trivial college lifestyle. College Magazine has no journalistic style or criteria. College Magazine is not a real news source nor a news company. The online articles seen on their website is not helping college students and college graduates who have been severely impacted or affected by the coronavirus pandemic. College Magazine is a very low, mediocre, and poor-quality online magazine. College Magazine purely and simply entertainment. The stories on College Magazine that never make a difference and do not make an impact in the lives of college students. College Magazine is neither real journalism nor real news. Recent college graduates, college students, and interns do not work for College Magazine. You will sincerely regret it.
