Pros

The company offers decent pay, good 401k matching, and a nice bonus structure, The corporate office is nice, and the vast majority of rank-and-file employees there are friendly folks who are passionate about the work they do. Day-to-day work is a steady pace while allowing breathing room to dash out of the office for a quick lunch or errand.

Cons

The acquisition by private equity has turned the company on its head. Management seems to constantly be threatening more cuts at all times- a mentality shared by the top that seems to trickle down to frontline managers. There is a squeeze for work, and people will pass the blame on any blunders, no matter how small, to save themselves. Additionally, any talk of strong job trajectory or upward growth has shown little proof; the only way to get properly moved around is to know the right folks higher up in the hierarchy. The best recommendation is to wait until the company is sold during the next acquisition and reevaluate from there.

Pros

Pay, PTO, 401K matching, Nice office. Used to be a much more enjoyable and special place to work prior to 2025 and the Brookfield acquisition

Cons

Management from mid-level managers to the company leadership team is very hit or miss. Company is on a mission to be as lean as possible and it's causing increases in workloads while headcount and resources are reduced Pretty high turnover and positions aren't being backfilled

Deteriorating culture and limited advancement opportunities

Pros

Generous 401k program Some good people / coworkers Decent work life balance

Cons

Colonial Leadership Team has slowly deteriorated the amazing culture this company had for many years. When Melanie Little arrived as CEO, she had one agenda - position the company for sale. During that process, Melanie and the CLT made significant efforts to execute a series of high revenue projects while chipping away at employee costs to achieve EBITDA targets. Employees, including myself, became overworked while experiencing a slow death of a thousand paper cuts. It started with reducing target bonus %, then reducing pay bands, and finally a reduction in force resulting in many terminations and demotions. There is little to no opportunity for advancement. Expect below average compensation on salary and bonuses. Speaking of bonuses, don’t expect to receive anything higher than a “Meets Expectations” evaluation regardless of your hard work and contributions to the company. The benefits are par for the course - nothing special (medical, dental, optical, etc.). If you’re seeking an entry level job - okay - Colonial is a great place to start your career. If not, proceed with caution. There are better opportunities than Colonial in the market. Keep looking.
