CONSTANT is a small, growing (currently +30 person) emergency management consulting firm. The people we hire are unequivocally passionate about our mission: Make the world a safer place.
Thank you for this - we always encourage and appreciate feedback. We have quarterly, anonymous surveys, and we are launching an instant feedback site tomorrow. Living and working in a pandemic can be taxing, and certainly working on pandemic related deliverables alongside living through the crisis itself is a heavy load. Nonetheless, CONSTANT is committed to bringing the best we have to offer to our people and the clients and communities we serve.
Leadership: We have very competent leaders. Our leaders have 15-30+ years of experience. Across our leadership team of 5 people, we have 4 MBAs, a CPA, and MPA and a whole host of other certifications. All staff have experience working in small businesses and/or high growth organizations. Leadership’s competency is evidenced across our business – we are certified as a Great Place to Work®, we have year over year growth including double digit growth last year, our win rate exceeds the industry standard, and we have consistently high client satisfaction scores. There are always things we can do better, but there is a lot of good within our leadership cadre.
Compensation and Benefits. We provide competitive benefits and compensation, especially for a small business of our size. Benefits include 10 paid holidays, Paid Time Off, a Work From Home Stipend, healthcare (for California team members) or a healthcare stipend, Volunteer Time Off, a generous 401K plan, an Employee Assistance Program, and more. Our salary ranges are re-evaluated every year and are within the national averages for our company size and industry. Multiple team members received merits and promotions last year for performing at a high level. Additionally, we are re-analyzing compensation for 2022 given the shift in the labor market over the past year.
Workload. As a professional consulting firm, yes, we expect people to pull their weight. In terms of staff working over 40 hours a week, a majority of practitioner staff work 40-45 hours/per week. Yes, we do ask team members to step up to the plate and work more if there is a surge. As we are in a pandemic and provide pandemic related services, some staff are surging to meet the needs of our clients.
Open Door to the CEO. For this team member in particular, you are welcome to set-up a meeting with me directly to talk about any concerns. My door is always open, and I hope the best for each and every team member. Consulting, and even emergency management, is not for everyone. We want you to be happy and fulfilled. Life is short. If our company is not a fit for you, I hope that you find a career path better suited to you. I invite you to open up that dialogue so we can work together to get you to you where you want to go.
Team Member Feedback. There are many ways team members can talk to leaders. In terms of providing feedback, staff are welcome to provide feedback during a wide variety of mediums: biweekly manager huddles with leadership, monthly project manager huddles, twice per year companywide summits, staff 1:1s, quarterly coffee with the CEO, quarterly anonymous pulse surveys, and during biweekly companywide meetings. We are about to announce an anonymous platform for our team members to provide instant feedback. Suggestions and ideas are how we continue to grow, and I encourage you to take advantage of these.
Communication. We communicate trends at multiple levels. Our team receives information on trends on practice areas bi-weekly from Practice Leads, quarterly and annually from me, biannually during our internal summits, and at various other times throughout the year via our biweekly internal meetings.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We are committed to fairness and equity. CONSTANT is an economically disadvantaged, woman owned, small business and prioritize equity across the organization. We have a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program, that is co-led by leadership and management, with participation by staff across the company. This program has a mission and are in the process of identifying specific goals for the year.
We are a fair and compliant organization. We have had zero discriminatory and inappropriate conduct incidents reported. If there is an issue that needs to be reported, that should be done so to HR. As an economically disadvantaged woman owned small business, appropriate conduct and fairness are paramount.
Let’s make progress together and make the world a safer place. Thank you!
