Pros

The clients are superb. It's great to have the caliber of clients that are seeking services to move them forward.

Cons

I find it interesting that each comment by Constant on the negative posts on employees is the same copy and paste. There is no attention to what issues have been mentioned here. Please take a look at the inability to address the facts of the culture because it feeds into what I'm about to say. No one is listening. The culture is toxic. There is no accountability for toxic behavior. Morale is low. No one is held accountable for their behavior and there is a blind eye to the toxicity that is running rampant through the company. This company will continue to be a revolving door, and it will continue to be difficult for staff until issues are addressed. People are held accountable for conversations never held because project manager's and task leads don't talk to the staff assigned as support. You either do as your told and accept their condescending comments/remarks or you are made out to be the bad person. If you vocalize what the issue is, you are silenced or criticized for trying to be constructive. It truly is toxic. I do advise staying away. Also, the best places to work designation is a false. The comments lending to moving forward and creating a healthy environment are ignored. My advisement is not to work here unless you are OK with being belittled around individuals that refuse to talk. It's a virtual environment which lends to the inability to have healthy conversation about issues. Stay away or your mental health because of what's dished out will be impacted. Integrity is not a value as they advertise as being one of things they focus on.

I am grateful for your feedback. Candid and specific feedback is a cornerstone of our approach. We address issues at the highest level and hold people accountable when appropriate. I also strive to connect with each team member 1:1 throughout the year. While we have many avenues for feedback, I will continue checking that team members feel comfortable sharing issues and confident they will be addressed. This is especially important in a virtual environment. Working at a small, quickly growing company isn’t for everyone. Growth causes rapid and continual change, especially in our field. I trust our team members to be nimble and proactive amidst broad and shifting guidance; that trust is reflected in our flexible policies (e.g., working hours and unlimited PTO). I respect that this environment can be more difficult for those who benefit from more rigid, pre-defined structures. I will continue to ensure we are communicating this as we engage candidate team members. To directly address your comment about health benefits, we previously offered a stipend to help cover health benefits costs. Now we offer a robust national healthcare plan, including a 100% company-paid option for team member coverage. I appreciate your positive comments regarding our clients. We’re honored to have gained their trust and our team does an amazing job building strong and productive relationships. This is reflected in our healthy year-over-year growth and meaningful impact on our communities. I know our people are the reason for our success and year-over-year growth — I remain committed to empowering the team, acting on their concerns, and investing in their professional growth. Best wishes to you on your career journey.

Pros

- All team members are genuinely passionate about our mission. Speaking to anyone across the different departments, it is clear we have an expansive array of talented individuals who genuinely believe in making the world a safer place. - Collaborative environment that seeks feedback! There is an open channel to provide anonymous candid feedback to Executive Leadership. Feedback is being acknowledged, and leadership has prioritized clear action items. - Remote work environment with flexibility. Based on feedback, we’ve shifted to a remote workforce, allowing us to welcome team members across the country. - There’s room to innovate and implement processes. Because the company is growing, there are a lot of opportunities to put your fingerprint on changes across the organization. - Team environment that celebrates individual and team accomplishments.

Cons

None at this time. The CEO and executive leadership are actively communicating steps to address any concerns as they're identified.

Thank you for your message. Especially with a growing company, feedback loops in every direction are priceless. Management reviews every pulse survey, and all feedback, and determines what actions we need to take or make changes. Then, we communicate that back out for feedback for refinement. It might be a policy change or a procedure change. We want buy-in from the team as well as understanding their perspectives on how they may be impacted. That way, Management can stay in-tune and receptive to feedback, too. Thanks again for your positive comments!

Pros

- Diversity of projects as a result of practice areas (emergency management, public health, counterterrorism, etc.); allows for innovation and collaboration that is offered very little elsewhere - Operations Team is incredibly dedicated, knowledgable, and kind with their time to help others in projects, career development, and etc. - Business Development Team is very well led by their incredible BD Director - Currently working remote from home; very flexible about this as many staff have left the local region and the company has accommodate requests - Direct supervisors are incredible advocates for the staff regarding compensation, support, workload management, and many other issues that frontline staff may be experiencing

Cons

- Serious lack of competent leadership from upper management (CEO, HR, CFO) has made it difficult recently as many are experiencing extremely low morale - Pay is visibly lower than other firms/organizations of similar size and revenue; leadership insists that they are providing fair compensation but the metrics are inconsistent - Leadership expects that employees work overtime (40+) as a benchmark of commitment and to demonstrate burnout in order to hire new staff - CEO is unwilling to discuss any areas for improvements or negative experiences about the company - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts are extremely tone deaf and white washed; leadership has glossed over multiple discriminatory and inappropriate conduct incidents - Virtually ineffective at communicating company wide updates, including HR and Financial processes

CONSTANT is a small, growing (currently +30 person) emergency management consulting firm. The people we hire are unequivocally passionate about our mission: Make the world a safer place. Thank you for this - we always encourage and appreciate feedback. We have quarterly, anonymous surveys, and we are launching an instant feedback site tomorrow. Living and working in a pandemic can be taxing, and certainly working on pandemic related deliverables alongside living through the crisis itself is a heavy load. Nonetheless, CONSTANT is committed to bringing the best we have to offer to our people and the clients and communities we serve. Leadership: We have very competent leaders. Our leaders have 15-30+ years of experience. Across our leadership team of 5 people, we have 4 MBAs, a CPA, and MPA and a whole host of other certifications. All staff have experience working in small businesses and/or high growth organizations. Leadership’s competency is evidenced across our business – we are certified as a Great Place to Work®, we have year over year growth including double digit growth last year, our win rate exceeds the industry standard, and we have consistently high client satisfaction scores. There are always things we can do better, but there is a lot of good within our leadership cadre. Compensation and Benefits. We provide competitive benefits and compensation, especially for a small business of our size. Benefits include 10 paid holidays, Paid Time Off, a Work From Home Stipend, healthcare (for California team members) or a healthcare stipend, Volunteer Time Off, a generous 401K plan, an Employee Assistance Program, and more. Our salary ranges are re-evaluated every year and are within the national averages for our company size and industry. Multiple team members received merits and promotions last year for performing at a high level. Additionally, we are re-analyzing compensation for 2022 given the shift in the labor market over the past year. Workload. As a professional consulting firm, yes, we expect people to pull their weight. In terms of staff working over 40 hours a week, a majority of practitioner staff work 40-45 hours/per week. Yes, we do ask team members to step up to the plate and work more if there is a surge. As we are in a pandemic and provide pandemic related services, some staff are surging to meet the needs of our clients. Open Door to the CEO. For this team member in particular, you are welcome to set-up a meeting with me directly to talk about any concerns. My door is always open, and I hope the best for each and every team member. Consulting, and even emergency management, is not for everyone. We want you to be happy and fulfilled. Life is short. If our company is not a fit for you, I hope that you find a career path better suited to you. I invite you to open up that dialogue so we can work together to get you to you where you want to go. Team Member Feedback. There are many ways team members can talk to leaders. In terms of providing feedback, staff are welcome to provide feedback during a wide variety of mediums: biweekly manager huddles with leadership, monthly project manager huddles, twice per year companywide summits, staff 1:1s, quarterly coffee with the CEO, quarterly anonymous pulse surveys, and during biweekly companywide meetings. We are about to announce an anonymous platform for our team members to provide instant feedback. Suggestions and ideas are how we continue to grow, and I encourage you to take advantage of these. Communication. We communicate trends at multiple levels. Our team receives information on trends on practice areas bi-weekly from Practice Leads, quarterly and annually from me, biannually during our internal summits, and at various other times throughout the year via our biweekly internal meetings. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We are committed to fairness and equity. CONSTANT is an economically disadvantaged, woman owned, small business and prioritize equity across the organization. We have a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program, that is co-led by leadership and management, with participation by staff across the company. This program has a mission and are in the process of identifying specific goals for the year. We are a fair and compliant organization. We have had zero discriminatory and inappropriate conduct incidents reported. If there is an issue that needs to be reported, that should be done so to HR. As an economically disadvantaged woman owned small business, appropriate conduct and fairness are paramount. Let’s make progress together and make the world a safer place. Thank you!
