Pros

Excellent leave. Flexible schedules. Good transit, health, dental, and vision benefits. Pension and 401k.

Cons

This government agency has a terrible management culture. They are well known for arbitrary decision making when it comes to hiring, promotions, and retention. Nepotism is an issue that has not been adequately dealt with. Members of the same family have been hired into the same office together. Even relations as close as mother and son. Management is also known to blacklist individuals that they themselves have hurt professionally in order to cover themselves. This makes the staff have very bad morale. Current management makes decisions that only increase the backlog of claims. It stands at 18 months, which is completely unacceptable.

Pros

Excellent work environment. The lawyers I worked with were some of the smartest people I have ever met and were more than happy to involve the interns in projects. It was a very friendly group, and the work was meaningful and in-depth. I learned a lot about copyright (and aced the subject in law school the following year).

Cons

A little slow at times and definitely needed to seek out work.

Pros

As a musician, allowed me to have one foot in the music world while having a stable income, decent benefits, etc. Coworkers were generally friendly, and bosses were supportive. Flex schedule.

Cons

Very bureaucratic, but what could be expected from a government agency. General day to day work was not that challenging.
