Pros

This job is great if you…. -need extra income (this is your second job) -you’re in school -you want to be a teacher -you enjoy working with kids Creative Brain, offers flexible working hours at Alvord Unified School District and for the most part, the job itself is not bad if you have great support from a prime-time facilitator who will intervene when a student is misbehaving or being disrespectful to you.

Cons

As employees, were contractors for the district and, therefore, treated a bit differently. Our work hours are cut off when the after school half-time/prime-time office directors choose to schedule random meetings and then decide to cut our work hours. Much of the schedule for “extra work hour days” are given last-minute and there are extra tasks involved that management assumes you’re free and willing to do (such as ride the bus with kids or pick up rosters at different school sites to sign in students) Depending on the site you are placed at, the facilitators work differently, and that definitely sets the tone of the workplace. Coworkers often leave or get switched all the time, and the retention rate for facilitators at one point was really bad, but they’ve gotten a little better.
