It is hard maybe benefits such as maternity could be better but the standard they have is a similar level to others in the industry.

    Pros

    - Great projects.
    - Great staff and culture.
    - Casual dress code and relaxed atmosphere.
    - Flexible work environment
    - Great management team, provides great support when required.
    - Management team is open minded and able to accept comments/feedback.
    - Encourages learning.
    - Good work/life balance.
    - No politics
    - Opportunities for relocation

    Cons

    - Global IT system is inefficient despite spending a high % of time and money improving it according to the partners.
    - Lack of global structure on certain things such as report format, modelling, QA, quarterly reviews (seems to be different depends on the office location), etc.
    - Pay is below average in the market.

    Advice to Management

    1. Improvement transparency of the management team i.e. what is the hierarchy of the partners in Cundall, especially when there are multiple partners in an office.
    2. Develop a global standard and enforce it - at the moment seems to be different depending on where you work.

I have been working at Cundall full-time

    Pros

Good atmosphere and management are easy to talk to and are open to ideas. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Understaffed at times meaning you have to cope with various projects and timescales, but that isn't any different from most companies these days.

    Advice to Management

Better training for graduates, more open to bringing in contractor's at busy times to ease pressure on engineer's.

    Pros

Great projects, great staff, fun atmosphere, relaxed dress code, encourages learning

    Cons

Work can be not very rewarding at times when you don't get to see your recommendations through to construction. Only offer design advice, but don't get to actually do the final design in some cases. Working on achieving Green star ratings is a living nightmare. Green Star ratings are not challenging and requires lots of very mundane paper work.

    Advice to Management

Add some more structure to your training program for new grads. They are sometimes lost in the fray.

I have been working at Cundall full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

An organisation that genuinely take the time to look after their employees while also setting industry-leading standards. Christmas bonuses are commonplace at all levels, and it's not overly 'target' orientated.

Cundall maintain an exceptionally high standard when it comes to their engineering practices, which is borne out by their excellent industry reputation and various awards. Working here can really expose you to the forefront of innovative engineering design for the built environment.

    Cons

Most Partners are quite behind the times in their outlook on flexible working arrangements. Flexi time is in place but they need to look closer at home-working and enhancing the range and quality of employee benefits in the UK and overseas.

    Advice to Management

Be bolder in your approach to flexible working. Performance is related to outcomes not attendance - and your competitors are offering more in this area.

Follow through on your principles of innovation with more radical steps to attract and retain female talent at all levels.

I have been working at Cundall full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I’ve worked at Cundall for three months now, after being offered the chance to have a career change and move into a technical role (after being with Cundall for two years prior to this).

Here’s some reasons why I love the company I work for:

    - When we were in the process of moving to larger offices, the management team consulted all members of staff about how they wanted their new office to look and even consulted staff on the types of chairs to purchase, in order to maximise comfort. I really don’t know many companies that would do such a thing and I’m so grateful to work in such an office. As a side note, some of our other offices have gone even further and now meet the WELL standard.
    - It’s a running joke throughout the company and particularly the Newcastle office that people leave and often return at a later date, but this is definitely above the norm. In the relatively short time I’ve been at Cundall, I know of about 10 people in the Newcastle office who have left and then returned and some as quick as a matter of weeks.
    - Management are super approachable and on social nights they are great fun. You’d never guess they are Partners, there’s no inflated egos, they’re all down to earth and they are genuinely there to look out for their team and get the best out of you.
    - Cundall has an immense social calendar, we have a social committee who organise an activity (around once a month) and this varies from meals out to physical activities like goape or go karting.
    - As a company we dedicate a lot of time to helping charities and volunteer activities.
    - Cundall have invested time and money into a mature student such as myself in order to help me achieve more. I think this in itself speaks volumes.

If you’re reading this and considering giving Cundall a go then you won’t regret it!

    Cons

None at all. If you do have something that you’re concerned about, it will generally always be acted upon (within reason).
