Pros

Modern office, easy to commute to.

Cons

Micromanagement of managers with competing priorities. Lack of trust from managers & direct support. Company pays you well but expect to work lots of over time. Career Decelopment route not clear. Company is 5 days work from the office.

Pros

- Flexible working hours were a strong positive before a management change. - The team itself was skilled, collaborative, and supportive despite the environment.

Cons

- The team consisted of eight engineers (data, BI, and analytics) reporting into three managers with competing priorities, resulting in unclear direction and constant context switching. - Management lacked effective prioritization and people‑management skills, leading to confusion, unrealistic expectations, and low morale. - There was no defined career progression or development pathway. - Agile practices (sprints, daily stand‑ups, etc.) were introduced but used primarily as a micromanagement tool. Performance was judged largely by burn‑down charts rather than outcomes or quality, discouraging honest estimation and sustainable delivery. - Over time (In the span of 4 months), approximately 90% of the team left, largely due to management practices and the overall working environment, resulting in significant loss of knowledge and continuity.

Pros

DBG Health as a broader company has some genuine positives. The office is modern, well located, and very close to public transport, which makes commuting convenient. The employee benefits are also good, including staff discounts, leave purchase options, and access to Acacia EAP. The role also started with a hybrid working arrangement, which was one of the better aspects early on.

Cons

The main challenges were within the data team after the change in management. The working environment became more restrictive, and the flexibility that initially existed was reduced significantly. For example, attending a doctor’s appointment was treated in a way that required taking annual leave, which felt out of step with a modern hybrid workplace. The management style also became a major issue. In my experience, there was a lack of clear direction, frequent shifting priorities, and limited role ownership across the team. This was made harder by management not having the technical depth needed to properly guide data engineering, BI, analytics, governance, or strategy-based work. There was also a strong sense of micromanagement, with too much focus on task tracking and short-term delivery rather than quality outcomes, sustainable processes, or long-term capability building. I would suggest caution to anyone considering joining this specific data team. Several team members resigned recently, including newer data engineers leaving within only a few months. The roles may look appealing from the outside, but based on my experience, the team environment was difficult.
