"Doctor"
- Senior Management★★★★★
Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookI worked at DHHS Tasmania part-time for more than 10 years
Pros
Great staff on the ground doing their best.
Cons
Unsupported and undermined initiatives for staff. Fear of job loss by many staff as largest employer in Tasmania and effective monopoly on most health care workers. Causes many to not speak up and many senior staff move on because of a culture of bullying and workplace intimidation. Senior administration engage in mobbing tactics.

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookI have been working at DHHS Tasmania full-time
Pros
It feels good to work for an employer that makes such a contribution to the community. It often feels like one big family as everyone is rallied around a central purpose.
Cons
Lack of strategic direction management is not empowered leadership model that is 20 years out of date lack of focus on business improvement big divide between paramedics and civilians management is out of touch with (non paramedic staff)

Pros
Legitimacy / social value of work. Some vet motivated people. Pays very well for non clinical roles.
Cons
Highly political with too much 'reach down' from the Minister.

RecommendsNegative OutlookI worked at DHHS Tasmania full-time for more than a year
Pros
Good culture, with supportive environment. Opportunity for great clinical exposure, including through flatter heirarchy. Working with some very high quality consultants
Cons
Understaffed chronically, placing a high load on junior doctors. There are some staff doctors who shouldn't be retained, and there is an overreliance on OTDs.

Neutral OutlookI have been working at DHHS Tasmania full-time for more than a year
Pros
Salary is good. Ability to accrue days off. I have been supported with accessing continuing professional development (not the same for all) Ability to be autonomous in my role.
Cons
High and consistent pressure. Little time to reflect and plan strategically - so often feel that you are being reactive rather than proactive Dissatisfaction in some teams - highly unionized Dispersed workforce that is not encouraged to collaborate.
