Pros

The people are the best reason for this place. Low ego, high collaboration. Non-execs of course. Unfortunately the good people are not the ones in charge and they are the ones made to suffer. The company is a brilliant idea and first of it's kindin Ontario.

Cons

Exec leadership team. Group of high ego, low quality, incompetent fools. CEO has never successful run a company and fires anyone who has experience but disagrees with her. Chief Strat Officer is named on a warning letter from FDA - that's just scratching the surface of the incompetence. Not one single person at the C level knows how to run a company. Just a bunch of big talkers looking out for themselves and their bank accounts. HR tool that was brought is in causing more problems then anything else. Was it worth it? Nope. Just another stupid shiny object that makes the execs feel like they are doing something. Morale gets worse every single day.

Pros

There used to be many talented and amazing individuals here. Unfortunately, many of them either resigned due to the toxic environment or were unfairly laid off.

Cons

These practices are commonly observed in the Biology and Biophysics department and its management. Overall, they make you feel like you work in a company in a third world country. Many employees have noted that the management, particularly the director level, favours certain individuals from specific countries. Unfortunately, promotions are not awarded based on skills or contributions. Instead, they are given to those who flatter the management, creating an insecure environment where sycophancy is rewarded over genuine merit. A pervasive gossip culture further exacerbates the situation, with certain groups close to the management disparaging others. This toxic atmosphere undermines teamwork and collaboration. Moreover, several unethical and potentially illegal practices have been observed: 1) Deceptive Job Offers: After the interview process, candidates are often presented with a job title and salary significantly below their experience level. Management verbally promises future salary increases, which rarely materialize. This tactic preys on less experienced individuals, who may accept the offer in good faith, only to find themselves burdened with increasing responsibilities without corresponding compensation. 2) Stagnant Career Progression: Employees are routinely asked to take on more work and responsibilities while being paid inadequately. Despite their hard work, they face constant excuses for why they are not promoted, particularly if they do not belong to a favored community. Constructive feedback is scarce, and the primary aim appears to be exploiting employees rather than fostering their professional growth. In summary, the Biology and Biophysics department suffers from deeply ingrained issues of favoritism, unethical practices, and a toxic work culture. If you value fair treatment and career progression based on merit, I will strongly advise against joining this company.
