Pros
Deecon is a unique place to work. It has ambitious plans to grow and resultantly looks to rapidly develop graduates. This means that you get a lot of opportunities early on in your career, for instance on my first project I got to take ownership of certain client relationships, presented to key stakeholders and was accountable for work streams. There is real motivation to work hard on projects because you can see their importance for the company, and your role in helping the company to grow. Additionally, there is a development review process that everyone in the company goes through where you can discuss what skills you want to develop and the work you really enjoy doing. This makes sure that you always know what you need to do to progress to the next level and allows you to shape your own development.
With Deecon being a growing company, you get to work on a wide range of projects. In my first year I worked on a number of projects including a multi-billion pound procurement project for a large multi-national and a commercial management project for a small (£3 million revenue) construction company. This gave me insight to very different types of business and helped me to figure out what I enjoyed working on.
The senior leadership place a big focus on team culture which means it is an enjoyable place to work. This is really important, as there are some challenging situations especially as you get responsibility early on but project managers are very supportive, particularly in your first few months.
Whilst I have been at Deecon, I have seen the focus on internal systems and training to develop staff increased markedly. From a relatively ad-hoc approach to trainings and slightly confusing internal systems, there is now a formalised training approach and the internal systems are more streamlined, and are being constantly reviewed and improved.
Cons
Similarly to a lot of consultancies the work load can fluctuate, so some weeks can be busier than others. The busy weeks can usually be seen coming and planned for, but this might not be to everyone’s taste if they would prefer a 9-5 role.
