Cons
Horrible follow-up for interview processes! First, they hired me as a canvasser, proposed another job to me that fit my repertoire then told me I would be considered though they’d like to start canvassing first. I agreed. I called again later within a few weeks and they told me they were not interviewing for the position at the moment because they were all in for the November 2020 election canvassing (spoiler: that was a lie). A few weeks later in October, I’m on a Zoom meeting with them and a Detroit Action employee was calling folks for interviews. I emailed the person asking was the position they had brought to my attention was still available and they told me they had filled position already. I did not confront them about it however, I put my resignation notice in and proceeded forward with new opportunities. LACK OF SOCIO-POLITICAL AWARENESS— On their company website in the about section they *claim* to practice: “ Centering the most impacted Leaderful movements Multiple strategies for power Embracing Radical Politics Holistic organizing Intersectionality and Interdependence Anti-capitalist/anti-racism Pan-Africanism and Internationalism Abolition Radical Love and Tenderness”. (Found on the Detroit Action’s ” I’ve seen none of these practices my duration there. They’re calling predominantly BLACK people, first saying they’d like to present *voter information* and then proceed to PATRONIZE and pander to get folks to say yes they’re voting for Joe Biden and how they’re voting mail or in person when the fact of the matter is, with the exception of the the 2016 election Detroit almost always goes blue for the Democratic ticket and predominantly BLACK Detroit the predominantly BLACK Detroit & Brown people on their call list they had does typically vote Democrat. They’re carrying on about how people should vote for Biden as an urgent moral imperative as if he’s substantially better than any representative of this imperialist country that has a long history of continued battle and infringement on civil liberties. They were angling like Biden was going to resolve all these issues that still persist and he’s our only hope. They also talked me for not pushing Biden and telling folks regardless of who they decide to vote on they should vote as well as they’re are so many other things on the ballot to vote on than the President. I also understand people like to equate ‘the better evil/option’ with ‘good’ to ease the discontent of social inequity though the marginalized people on the borders, the marginalized people incarcerated, the marginalized groups still feel a lot of the brunt regardless of a Democrat is president because *that’s the way hierarchal caste systems operate it would require a complete restructuring / reinvisioning not a new representative of the executive branch*. The initiatives I’ve been exposed to fall short of what they claim their values are— it’s a hodgepodge of social justice terms that have no real application as well as I deeply question if everyone knows what these concepts mean. It is not Pan-African analysis telling Black & Brown people a president is our only hope for a better life here it’s very inappropriate DEFINITELY not ‘Abolitionist’, not an embrace of ‘Radical Poltics ‘Pan-African’ and being patronizing to marginalized communities is definitely not ‘Centering’ them. In addition, they claim to establish ‘Leader-full movements’ though the leadership not only were dishonest with me but they also made a text script using ableist language about a candidate with though critique is very valid, weaponizing mental health terms to explain peoples bad behavior goes more to *stigmatize* mental health that it does to persuade people which candidate to vote for. The script was changed once it was mentioned though still unacceptable a ‘leader’ that is supposed to represent these values would do that it was disappointing. If I remember correctly they were apart of a PAC, probably partially in it for funding. To conclude, the behavior they exhibited towards me in the ‘hiring process’ in addition to how they pandered for Detroiters combined left a sour impression on Detroit Action and me not getting that job was a blessing! IF YALL ARE A *LIBERAL* ORGANIZATION ADVOCATING FOR DEMOCRATIC ENGAGEMENT JUST SAY THAT, PLEASE DON’T BE UNTRUTHFUL LIKE YALL ARE REALLY FACILITATING A SPACE FOR RADICAL ORGANIZING. RADICAL AND LIBERAL ARE NOT SYNONYMOUS.
