The Death of a Great Culture

Pros

+ ICs at DY are lovely and want a great culture to work in. We are proud of the place we work. + Client teams are focused on solving real needs. + No overtime, good vacation, good benefits. + R&D in Elixir language is active and ambitious.

Cons

- The founder is back in charge and he is a toxic, Trump-like human being. - The culture is no longer cohesive, with some ICs now emulating the CEO's behavior and others upset that they are losing a great place to work. - Clients are also allowed to be toxic with no repercussions. DY shuffles people in and out of projects to decrease employee exposure rather than fire a bad client. Firing the client means laying people off, so catch-22. - Black employees don't stick around. - There is increasing hostility toward women by cisgender male engineers. - Employee feedback is a joke. Nobody dares speak truth to power.

Poor performance from leadership

Pros

Amazingly talented teammates that have turned into lifelong friends. Great benefits and HR.

Cons

Toxic, dishonest leadership at the director level. The inability of leaders to build and maintain teams and win work. A culture of failing up. Lots of talk about values that is not matched by actions.
