Pros

Ideally, it would be a nice handy job but in reality they were a disgrace. Went through a litany of employees in the six months I was there.

Cons

The managers literally go out of their way to be obnoxious, pedantic and nagging towards their employees. Not a single person could tolerate the two managers I was expected to work for. Dubray are a thundering disgrace as employers. That has been my experience working for them.

Pros

The best job possible if you love books. Since it's a very recommended-based system it was always fun to share your love of reading and particular books with customers, Staff discount is more generous than other retail places.

Cons

It's a bit cliquey and not always the most inclusive workplace. I found myself disconnected a lot from the staff and management. I think the perfect partner's system only works if a little commission is involved otherwise, it feels a little worthless trying to sell a book to a customer if no reward is involved. Gift wrapping for customers is unnecessary tbh feels like something you'd need proper training in anyway. Pay could definitely be higher for the work expected

Pros

Dubray is a great place to work if you're even remotely interested in books. If the idea of working in a bookshop is exciting to you, Dubray should be a great fit, so long as you don't mind the cons. Lots of free stuff, it's about as close as it gets to having actual employee benefits. Proofs of books sent in by publishers. It's nice to get a preview of major releases sometimes months before they come out. You get to meet authors. You work with some pretty great people and some pretty not great people.

Cons

The pay is abysmal and the hours are too fluid. In all my years of working I have never seen a rota change on a whim as much as Dubray does. The main cause being that we were so short staffed all of the time. It was crushing. The benefits the company boasts about would be comically bad if it wasn't for the greed behind them. The pay is bad enough but having little to no benefits at all is just atrocious carry on,
