Pros

Hands-on, in-person training on how to be an effective food server at formal banquets (corporate holiday parties, weddings, celebrations of life, etc.) - what's expected, what to do and not to do, how to properly mount and carry an oval tray full of entrees or dishes, which side to clear from and which side to place food from, how to set the table. I work directly for a catering company now instead of as a temp, and we mainly hire Instawork temps for huge parties: It's really a crap shoot as to whether or not they'll know what to do, or how to dress and act appropriately, because there's little-to-no training. Companies like Echo do a lot better job at preparing their employees for the industry.

Cons

No real opportunity for advancement within the company, but Echo's clients end up hiring the best temps for direct employment.

Pros

The job itself was fun. I love serving people and helping make a party great. You also get to take home food sometimes.

Cons

Megan would change my schedule without telling me, but the real problem was the paycheck. I needed my paycheck mailed, which she agreed to. The entire time I worked there, I received one paycheck on time. I'd have to wait a week then message her. She would always say the check was mailed, and every time, surprise! I receive the check two days after I called. It was always post marked for the day I called. She'd even send pictures of hand- written "notes" on envelopes claiming she mailed it and it was returned as undeliverable. (Yes, I saved those texts.) I notice that none of the "undeliverable" envelopes had post-marks on them. I finally got direct deposit but she fired me for complaining about not receiving paychecks on time. Surprise! The last paycheck was late, and wasn't direct deposit. I had to call her again and demand a check be mailed. My suggestion? If you want to work there, do direct deposit and take screenshots of your schedule.
