Pros

Friendly coworkers and people who are great to interact with everyday. Free food and bonuses for peak times. Full Kitchens and location is convenient to many places for lunch. If you have no desire to move up and don’t require respect and are content to quietly adhere to whatever is presented, this is a good entry level job or a pre retirement job.

Cons

Unless you have been employed here for years, the management and upper management is horrible. There is not a lot of opportunity for true advancement despite how well you perform unless you are accepted into one of the several cliques there. Management especially among the female population is a game of popularity and is extremely petty. There is more turnover with female managers than male managers due to the unprofessional behaviors that upper management females engage in to intimidate their gender peers. Overtime is forced and as supervisors we were encouraged to ignore escalations and have our senior agents take the calls. There are many good employees there who are afraid to speak up and out in fear of losing their jobs since there are always new hiring classes coming in. As a manager, knowing that my employees could be punished if their aux and wrap times were over 7-11 minutes and that they jd to be worried about using the restroom was something that I disagreed with.

Pros

Co-workers share your pain and understand what it's like to work in a call center. You can develop some good friendships with your co-workers. Some of the supervisors are very understanding. The company sometimes tries to show appreciation to the company customer care workers. The company does give food to employees fairly frequently. The best times are when there are meetings and employees are able to log off the phones for meetings.

Cons

For anyone in the customer care group, the cons are simply being in that group. As an employee, you're subjected to the worst of humanity and have to deal with people who abuse you over the phone regarding student loan payments. It's demoralizing. The debt management group was trained to call customers and request payment on student loans; the numbers we had to meet were high and hard to come by when the majority of calls resulted in being cursed at, hung up on, or told the customer simply couldn't pay and "Obama would pay off the loan." In addition, upper management rarely has any idea what the numbers they impose look like in a day-to-day setting, they have little sympathy for the employees, and have no idea what reality is like in the customer care department. Supervisors regularly go on power trips and refuse to acknowledge questions from representatives that are trying frantically to get off a call with an irate customer. In short, the customer care representatives are on the lowest rung of a ladder they cannot climb with no way to pull themselves up and no support from upper management while they're getting abuse from customers. This is, in short, the worst job I have ever experienced.

Pros

Pay: The pay here is exceptional. We have a unique payment system here. We receive "fringe pay". We get an extra dollar amount per hour. You can choose to have health insurance. The insurance is deducted from your "fringe pay" and then the additional amount is the paid out to you. You can elect to forego health insurance to receive your FULL fringe payout. Hours: 1st shift (except one late night a week 12 to 8:30). Plenty of vacation time (equates to 3 weeks of PTO a year) . All federal holidays off with pay. Plenty of opportunities for OT. Management willing to work with schedule, very understanding towards parents. Mangers: The management staff at EdFinancial is better than ALL my previous jobs. They are very understanding, approachable, willing to help, open to criticism, and positive. Work environment: I work in a very positive environment. All my coworkers are fun and easy to get along with. There is little to no conflict within our workforce. There are plenty of events that the company puts on that employees can attend. There are plenty of competitions and rewards given for doing your job well. (During spring and summer time there is a food truck here almost every day in our parking lot which is a great way to get a quick bite to eat.) Job growth/Job Security: The company is still growing and growing quickly. This means there are plenty of opportunities for promotion. The company almost exclusively hires from within. There will always be student loans and companies needed to service them. This is not a temporary or seasonal job. If you work here and do well, you can stay with the company for as long as you need.

Cons

Scheduling: Our overall schedule is great but not perfect. A little bit more flexibility within our operating hours we be preferred. The ability to work 5 10s as opposed to 5 8s would be much appreciated. Work Load: The work load (especially in peak times) can be overwhelming. And there is little to no compensation for this increase in work output. Within the course of a day you could be working 3 to 4 different jobs. There are incentives for doing WELL in a job outside the one you were hired, but a simple pay increase for DOING the job would be appreciated.
