Pros

They have a product good.

Cons

No culture, no transparency, high turnover rate and no respect from sexist CEO who views women as second class citizens. This company has no values nor a mission that they follow. I've never witnessed so many people disappear from a company, get disrespected by their own CEO and make employees cry . I agree with the other reviews people drop like fly's, one day they are in and the next they are out. They cannot keep an HR director nor team. Most 5 star reviews are written by them to try to protect their image. This place is a joke! Look elsewhere.

Toxic Work Culture

Pros

As with many places, it offers free catered lunch twice a week and has a fancy water machine in the kitchen

Cons

Given the recent spate of high-profile harassment allegations and the multitude of ensuing think pieces lamenting a lack of action, I find myself feeling almost duty bound to warn potential new hires, especially women and underrepresented minorities, that they could be walking in to a very hostile work environment. While I was fortunate enough to avoid the types of major incidents that are currently making headlines, my experience at Egnyte tended to follow the almost as insidious “war of attrition“ model, whereby every day was another indignity piled on to the slog that became my daily existence. Yes, that may seem like a melodramatic statement to make on a platform like this, but I feel that the description is warranted given the near constant state of anxiety this job induced in me. What began with very public humiliation about perceived imperfections in my work quickly devolved into offensive and degrading comments about both my race and gender, coupled with a pervasive drinking culture that directed profound derision and shame at anyone who "deigned" not to partake. There is dark humor to be found in the realization that the company is effectively a parody of itself - the Silicon Valley startup too socially clueless to realize how destructive its culture truly is, with a toothless HR department to boot. But the real world consequence on its already vulnerable employees is anything but humorous. It is a work environment that I truly would not wish on anyone, and I hope that in writing this, I will have spared at least one person the immense emotional labor it takes to survive there.

I’m always disappointed when I hear someone has had such a negative experience at Egnyte, but I find this description particularly disheartening because it’s such a direct contrast to my experience and the experience of so many of our employees. We strive to create a positive working environment that provides growth opportunities for all of our employees. First and foremost, we have an inordinate focus on the “services” part in SaaS - validated by our customers. We are a customer centric company first before being an employee centric company. I would like to specifically address the “pervasive drinking environment” as I feel this is a gross overstatement. We provide an atmosphere for Egnyters to let their hair down, specifically after hours on Fridays. But I will categorically state that I have never been pressured to drink nor have I ever heard of any employee being pressured to drink or be denigrated because they chose not to. This is egregiously incorrect and indicates a personal issue from this individual.

Pros

Nice office space conveniently located in downtown Raleigh, flexibility with work-from-home and PTO schedules, some decent benefit options, and excellent camaraderie amongst the sales floor.

Cons

Egnyte is a revolving door; since I joined in 2019, the AEs in Raleigh have almost completely churned, we've had two CFOs, a sales director position held by three different individuals, and a CRO who only lasted 6 months, just to give a couple examples of the turnover. The company struggles to generate new business and acquire new logos, and furthermore, has no plan or vision on how to go about generating net new MRR. So, as an incoming AE, understand that your day in and day out will be more in line with the responsibilities of a SDR where metrics are all that matters and call quantity (over quality) will be monitored and addressed daily. Since there was such little business to go around during my tenure, only 1 or 2 individuals would hit quota each quarter. There was also a laughably short ramp period for new AEs, so if you're coming onboard, plan your personal budget with the expectation that you'll be living off base pay for the foreseeable future. Egnyte has been in cultural decline well before the craziness of 2020 ensued, and the events of the past year have only exacerbated the issue. Ultimately, I wouldn't tell people to necessarily run from this company, but just fully understand what you're getting into before applying or accepting a position as an AE. If you're going into sales because you like building relationships with clients, demonstrating value, and actually selling, then I'd argue Egnyte is not for you in its current state.
