It used to be better

Pros

Most of my coworkers and my manager are like family to me. They have helped me grow into the person I am today. I used to be very excited to come and work my butt off

Cons

The changes made by corporate have seriously diminished how appreciated I felt. They changed the tipping out policy so much I’m lucky if I get a dollar for every hour I work. I used to make a very substantial amount more. Before there was motivation to go to work, you would want it to be super busy so you could make as much money as possible, not so much anymore. Now it doesn’t matter if it’s busy, it’s better if it’s slow because what’s the point? You’re making the same amount anyway

Server's Paradise

Pros

For servers and support staff, life is fantastic! Little to no side work, come in, make your money, leave with NO worry or repercussion for not doing what middle management asks of you. Even after write ups, flailing on shift times or just an old fashioned call out cause ya didn't feel like coming in today. Not to worry... AND if that's not enough, lets say you want the day off after the schedule is posted but you forgot to request it and go through proper channels for "requesting" the time off, all they have to do is call the corporate office and complain, make up some story, anything they want, then BOOM... REQUEST GRANTED!! Life as an Elmer's server is as light and fluffy as their fresh baked buttermilk biscuits

Cons

As an "assistant" general manager, you get to accept 100 % of the accountability while having 0% authority. But don't forget The company moto, "Tough on standards, easy on people" Yeah, that does not apply to you. The "standards" you are responsible for maintaining are basically all on you. There are a handful, yes, one handful of competent servers throughout the 4-5 stores I was around. The rest, well.... With no worry for any kind of action for their lackluster or lack of performance, you as manager get all the heat for their work. This operation is the picture perfect example of the little kid who is the suck up angel in front of any kind of larger authority figure but as soon as they're gone, they are devious spiteful nasty little people who will lie, about what is really going on just because its fun for them.

Pros

Elmer's has great people and a solid culture. Days off tend to be consecutive and they are good about making up time if you work more than 5 days in a week. The product is mostly solid with a few minor exceptions.

Cons

The downsides are that you will work most if not all holidays, there are no health benefits, and salary is below the industry average especially in the Portland market.
