Pros

- Works in a niche that actually might help science - Lots of vacancies because of a industry leading employee turnover

Cons

- When you apply to the company, you are taken through several rounds of interview with employees related/unrelated to the role you're applying, just to seem thorough. As a result questions are dumb and repetitive. Co-founder, Swetabh, takes the last round to check Culture Fitment which is non-existent at Elucidata. - Not just teams, but at Elucidata individuals work in silos. New people are not introduced in the system properly, and they just fade into their own silos. As a result teams are disjointed, results are short term and the over arching goal is never met. - The co-founder, Swetabh has frequent mood swings. One moment he will speak to you like a normal person, and the next he would be yelling & abusing at you, and telling your work is meaningless. After which he will return to normal like nothing happened. - Results are considered results only when they are as per the co-founder. Swetabh is one of those kids that sets eyes on a toy without any logic, and unless he gets it, nothing you do matters, he will put on a tantrum in the form of harsh unprofessional words, until you fulfill his wish. - If you do plan to leave, you just up and leave because feedback is non-existent at Elucidata. Neither the HR, nor the founders are interested in what you found was missing, or any points of improvement. They have a rigid mindset of "This is how we are. You don't like it? The leave." - Swetabh not only believes but openly tells everyone that we do not have a culture. Our culture is slogging people. And if someone can't deal with it, they're free to leave. An option every self-respecting talented person exercises. - Do not believe the 4.2 Glassdoor rating as of 22nd July. Have a look at the "Most Recent" Glassdoor reviews, and notice how all of a sudden, there is a barrage of 5 star reviews in a span of 30 days (Jun/Jul), which was otherwise in ruins a few months ago. - The HR team forces existing employees to write 5 star reviews to boost overall Glassdoor rating, which would help put up a good face in front of the investors. As an employee, you will never have a stable team or role. People and tasks will come and go. The only thing permanent will be belittlement by Swetabh, and a mum voice of Abhishek.

Inexperienced set of Jerks

Pros

1. It's a fun place for a start, with a good team to work along. 2. Biology, data science, and technology is a niche domain and is bound to boom. 3. They work on the latest technology stacks and use open source.

Cons

1. CTO is a sweet kid and a lollygag. But if you take the chocolate away, he bursts like a bomb causing catastrophic damage to employees and the company. He might be a good boss but has substandard leadership qualities. 2. HR and people's management are non-professional and are nincompoops. Salaries and other forms of compulsions are often late with a feeble excuse. 3. Gears like laptops are godawful and worthless with no support to fix or replace them. A hilarious instance was when the company was trying to sell chairs to employees already facing pay cuts. 4. Upper management is a set of jerks. They are too inexperienced to handle and manage teams/projects. After all, they are just freshers causing bumfuzzle. 5. Engineering leaders are too naive and amateur. They make stupid decisions based on the infinitesimally small knowledge they possess. Planing never involves long-term thinking. The business model is taradiddle depending on the cheap engineering workforce. So engineers are neither expected nor forced to build and innovate.

Pros

- Good people to work with. Most employees are fun, smart and hardworking. - You'll learn how to navigate office politics.

Cons

- The offering changes every few months. If you start a sales or marketing campaign, by the end of it, the product is different and you don't know what your contribution has been to the team because the campaign itself has gone to waste. You'll have to target a new demographic with new value propositions for the new offering. - Bad eggs. Every team has one or two people who do nothing and take credit for other people's work. Somehow, management doesn't see through this despite several escalations. - Fake promises. You'll be oversold on what the company can offer you. This happens both to customers and with employees who join. Hence, the product cannot keep up with the promises and the employees get overworked and underpaid. The company can change the employees' KPI so drastically that they'll be doing tasks that were completely different from what they joined to do, this altering the career path of the person. - Appraisals are a joke. No matter how much you do, you'll be told you're not doing enough during your performance review. You'll be so burdened with work that due to lack of bandwidth, you'll be working on "priority tasks" instead of working to improve your KPIs. This year, most guys did not even get any appraisals. They will make you feel like you're lesser than you actually are. Make sure you check if you're getting paid the market rate at least. Don't be gaslit into accepting low offers. - Favouritism. You'll either experience this first hand or you'll watch some of your coworkers gliding through while others remain underappreciated and overworked. - Poor management. Senior Management does not seem to understand the pulse of the market. They badly lack the vision it takes to run a company. The layoffs are a clear sign. - Layoffs. They lay off employees and post openings for interns to do the same work. - Unlimited leave policy. No one really used this option because they had so many projects to finish. It was the carrot that drew the horse forward but no one really got the carrot except a handful maybe. - Upskilling bonus. Your autonomy in choosing what you want to upskill in is limited by your manager. They may even ask you to use your bonus for training sessions organised by the company. - POSH? Pish posh. - Working hours. Your possibility of having a life outside work depends on the team you are in. Be prepared to feel like a second class citizen when it comes to meeting times.
