Pros

The majority of people who work here are dedicated to the mission and the students they work with. As far as non-profits go, they take work-life balance seriously.

Cons

Upper management will "consider" feedback but implement things without much thought. It seems that some people are held to a different standard than others.

Pros

The team was very friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. Everyone was approachable, which made it easy to ask questions and feel comfortable as an intern. The work environment was relaxed and supportive, and I enjoyed working with people who genuinely cared about the organization's mission.

Cons

If your goal is to develop strong professional or technical data skills, this may not be the best place. The projects and responsibilities were relatively limited in scope, and there was less emphasis on industry-standard practices, advanced analytics, or structured mentorship compared to what you might find at larger companies.

Pros

The people actually working with students do an amazing job, and carry the torch with sincerity and good intentions.

Cons

-Certain members of the admin react incredibly poorly to any critique of the status quo, no matter how diplomatically worded, how pertinent, or how urgent. This organization as a whole is incredibly resistant to change. -Turnover is high, especially for POC and for women. -Low pay: the board and senior employees are independently wealthy and own their own homes, while entry level employees are on food stamps and/or living pay check to pay check, scraping by as renters. -Salaries are unequal for folks the same position/with the same expertise in different departments. -Employees have been scolded for discussing said pay disparities. Note that attempts to shut down salary-related conversations are illegal, as discussions of pay is federally protected speech for workers. -Management is beholden to the org's wealthy donors & board members, none of whom (save two) actually come in to support the work 826 Boston does in schools. TLDR, they talk the talk but utterly fail to walk the walk. Hypocritical and ultimately unserious about actual equity and change.
