Low pay and poor company culture - Digital product architect ASU Preparatory Academy Employee Review

Pros

If you work in the product department, there is flexibility, in terms of when you work. Generally as long as you make it to meetings and get your work done, you’re good. It’s fully remote so you can work from anywhere but meetings are set for Arizona time so you will need to be available during those business hours.

Cons

Pay across the board is far under market rate. Most curriculum employees are only offered contract positions. The product team is very reactive and is focused on compliance, not innovation, which is ironic since they are obsessed with labeling themselves as “#1 in innovation.” DEI are given lip service but in reality, it’s ignored in curriculum development or only performative, such as using a picture of people of multiple races. But actually including diverse figures, uncomfortable parts of history for white people are vetoed. The focus on the curriculum team is providing a curriculum that in no way challenges white supremacy. Elementary curriculum was laid off en masse in December 20 days before Christmas with no warning. Employees weren’t offered other positions and contract employees, who were the majority of the team, received no severance.

Pros

-Location flexibility (remote) -Pay (compared to AZ public education, not necessarily other states) -Arizona Prop 301 bonus -As an affiliate employee to ASU, you are eligible for Tuition Discounts for ALL AZ state universities; $25 per credit for yourself, 75% off tuition for dependents

Cons

-So many phone calls (which no one answers anyway) -High student load since it's remote -Impossible to meet some expectations - like phone calls to all C and below students every week. When you have 180 students that is challenging.
