Pros

Working with kids who have the same behaviors as myself when I was a kid makes this job a bit easier for me. The good days are great but like a blue moon come once in a while.

Cons

Lots of verbal abuse from clients. There are times where you get physically harmed by the clients. Not to scare anyone but it happens more often than not.

The administrative workload is extremely high, often limiting the time available to provide meaningful, direct support to clients. The work is emotionally demanding and requires strong self-regulation and coping skills to remain effective and grounded throughout the day. At times, the compensation does not feel commensurate with the level of skill, emotional labor, and responsibility required to perform the role effectively—particularly when ensuring client safety, co-regulation, and sustained emotional support.
