Pros

- Decent insurance and 401k benefits - Always plenty of work to do - Excellent location to work near the Metra and other amenities in the Loop

Cons

- "Unlimited sick days" boils down to "no sick days", as employees are pressured to not take them and are asked to disclose medical conditions - Extreme emphasis on billability at the expense of personal development and code quality - HR and management are not approachable and are known to brush off employee concerns - Known to lie to current employees about what "the norm" is for consulting firms in Chicago, including how time is entered, salaries, and expected work hours. Employees are told that "this is how it is everywhere" when employees bring up concerns with culture - Little to no dedication to diversity and inclusion. Women developers are viewed with disdain by their male colleagues, including being told that they are "creating drama" or "playing the victim" when they bring up sexism concerns - They advertise being heavy on mentorship, when in reality mentors exist to bring new employees up to billability expectations. Very little emphasis on professional development and growth. - Emphasis is on doing the minimum for the client, not what's best or what they really need. Very little empathy for the end-user.

Thank you for the feedback. We are shocked and sorry to hear these claims. The title suggests a very different place than what we believe we have at Adage. Adage is a safe place, and always has been. We have never received any complaints, reports, or allegations of “disdain”, sexism, harassment, or other forms of unprofessional behavior. Any mention of issues like these are and will be taken very seriously. As an organization that values 100% integrity and doing the right thing, that type of behavior is unacceptable here. We have policies and training in place to deal with any level of discrimination or harassment in our company. We have an open door policy, regular check-ins, new hire check ins, stay interviews with HR, and host 5 anonymous surveys for employees every year, and we have never once received any such complaints. We actively ask for employee feedback and are constantly looking at how we can improve in our workplace, processes, benefits, and culture. We will certainly look into your feedback as well. We value every employee at Adage and work to be inclusive of diversity within our organization. We would encourage anyone to visit our offices and see.

Pros

There are some talented people you can learn from. The work is fast paced, and can get experience using a variety tools in a variety of industries. Work life balance is pretty good once you’ve been there 1-2 years.

Cons

Few women in leadership roles, with no women managers on the developer side of the business. Very few women developers at all. Since 2020, there have been layoffs at least one a year. Business is very slow to come in, and they acquired a nearshore company which has been the focus. I expect continued domestic layoffs to be ongoing. The message is for the developers to try and be up-selling their current projects, since the sales team is having trouble bringing in new work. During a layoff last year, they let go the only two women in the company who had taken maternity leave. Work can be monotonous if on the same type of projects. Estimates and scope are always tight and expect the developer to make up the time or always do things faster.

Thank you for your feedback. We take concerns like these seriously and would like to clarify a few points: On inclusion and gender equity: We’re proud to share that nearly 30% of our Leadership Team is made up of women (2 out of 7), and we’re actively working to grow representation across all areas, including technical roles. In addition to our Leadership Team, we also have women in key leadership roles in HR and Development, reflecting our commitment to inclusive leadership across departments. We recently celebrated Women’s Week to highlight the impact and contributions of the women at Adage, and we remain dedicated to building an inclusive culture. On layoffs and parental leave: It is not accurate to say there have been layoffs every year. While we've had to make difficult decisions in response to broader economic challenges, they have not occurred annually, and we always approach such decisions with care, transparency, and respect for those affected. Additionally, the claim that layoffs were tied to maternity leave is categorically false—Adage fully supports parental leave and is committed to treating all employees equitably. On business focus: Our nearshore growth is part of a global strategy, not a shift away from domestic teams. We continue to invest in our people and deliver meaningful work across regions. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to listen, learn, and improve.
