Pros

Alaska treats you with respect and shows appreciation in your work. Bonus payouts are great! Medical, Benefit and Retirement benefits are really nice! Most Employees are friendly and nice to work with. You get to know most everyone you fly with and will probably fly with them again at some point. Alaska's work contract and work union is really great. I would say it's better than most airlines.

Cons

There are only West Coast bases. Non of which are ideally affordable to live in. (You may be able to afford it, but its higher rent/cost of living than the average city.) However, its easy to be a commuter to a nearby affordable town/city so that's always an option too. (Or you can commute mid to cross country like I do. I really don't mind it!) Pay is lower than American, Delta, United and Southwest BUT Alaska's contract is great. Alaska may get better pay in the long run because of the reserve guarantee (90 Flight Hours/month) plus per diem on top of that pay, and reserve pay on top of that.

Pros

Good work environment and culture. Leadership is strong.

Cons

Terrible compensation practice. Outdated approach, especially with corporate back office roles. Leaders have zero say in salaries. The compensation team has an outdated approach to pay and are not open to stay with the current market trends and challenging to partner with. There needs to be a willingness to change and align with the local job market. There needs to be an openness to listen to leaders' input. Its hard to hire and hard to attract retain good employees when we are competing with local employers in the Seattle area that offer better pay. It is very challenging to work with a compensation leader and team that do not listen.
